Evening guys (and gals)
Right before I head off to university I am going to go to Canada to work. Currently I have a flight booked to Vancouver and hoping to work in Whistler, if not I will probably work in Vancouver.
Just wondering if anyone has any 'must do's' whilst out there, I currently haven't booked a ticket back so am able to travel around a bit. Any other advice is welcome as always as well :D

How long are you going for?
Have applied anywhere to work?
Have you had to apply for a work visa at all?

Sorry for thread stealing - but I would like to ask them questions :p

I've been to Vancouver - but didn't stay too long as we were staying on Vancouver Island... so if I had to recommend somewhere to go for the day - I'd say get the ferry over to Vancouver Island :) Beautiful :D

Haha its alright, ask away!

1) hopefully going out in late May/early June and Will be back in late September, at the moment no dates are set.

2)At the moment no, as most places will be hiring for summer positions they don't even start advertising until May time. I'm going to secure a job whilst out there, hopefully working in Whistler (the firm Intrawest that owns Whistler resort start hiring in early June)

3)Yes, i have applied through a company called BUNAC that offer an exclusive working Visa for students ages 18-30. I can stay up for a year if i want too. I'm not sure if there are any other working visas available though, I presume there are!

You must see an NHL hockey game, I got hooked on Hockey Night when I was there but never managed to see the Canucks at their home stadium :(

Honestly its simply the best game ever!

BUNAC is ideal. My girlfriends brother worked in Whistler for 6 months on the ski lifts and had a cracking time.

If your out there towards the end of Sept. onwards... make sure you got some warm clothes... it can get incredibly cold compared to what we are used to over here.

Though if you get hooked you'll be disappointed when you get back here :p

Thanks for answering them :)
Also - Do you know where you're staying?

Oh and I agree about the hockey :) I've always loved hockey - although I've only seen matches in the UK - Next time I'm in Canada, I will go and see one :)

Absolutely gutted mate, only have freeview and little chance of ever seeing a vaguely live NHL game! I detest football, tolerate rugby but none of them comes close to ice hockey!

It's still not great even on ESPN :p

Just don't get too in to it, we're travelling from Nottingham to Cardiff and back on Sunday for a 60 minute game :D

At the moment no! I have two days in a hostel when i first arrive, but the idea would be to house share with people that are doing the BUNAC program as well.
