Agree or disagree?

People who haven't travelled (beyond their own continent, and not including package holidays) have a narrow perspective and can't possibly understand the bigger picture regarding many aspects of life including cultural/religious/social psychology, love (yes love - how do you know she's 'the one' if you haven't experienced what you consider to be 'love' in a variety of cultures?) and various other aspects of life.

Non-travellers will instantly consider that statement as arrogant of course.

Not trying to be "holier than thou" just interested to see peoples opinion on the matter...

not traveling means you have a narrow perspective on other cultures

it doesn't mean you "know jack"

but i do know what you mean, i have done a lot of traveling and feel that it has opened my eyes to the world

No.

People who have travelled tend to be just as ill informed but holier than thou and think they're more informed :p

hmm i disagree the only thing non travellers don't understand is just how amazing travelling is. The rest you spouted is you being holier than thou.

Trent - Travelled to over 35 countries. Treked in jungles , scaled mountains and slept on deserted islands.

This.

The world is a big place with these weird portals in most rooms.... in fact... I've just had a long conversation with peeps in America and Italy...

I'm not sure if travelling makes your opinion more relevant, but i do know that you should travel until you find a place you can call home. Far to many people complaining nowadays.

Travelled? Do you mean spending a few nights in Youth hostels in Thailand, japan and Australia? Possibly 'trekking' in Peru, which probably means an organised tour of those ancient ruins before returning to your Youth hostel?

yes, this really helps broaden people's horizons!

You don't need to leave our continent to experience vastly different cultures and lifestyles.

I learnt a lot from visiting Slovakia, you could still see the Communist/Iron Curtain history which really did rub off on day-to-day life, even in 2009.

Hmm, kind of agree with this...
BUT you would have to be a pretty seasoned traveller to be really clued up on all of it, as well as an intelligent person.
Someone could study other cultures etc from afar, through books and what not and be more clued up on 'the bigger picture'

Its all about what type of person you are.. I dont think the "she is the one" statement is fair, you could say that about multiple people in multiple contexts, theres more than one out there, but its just rude to say that.

In a way it is character building experience and will alter your perceptions of things in your own culture, but it doesnt mean you know any better.

Completely disagree. You can mix with a variety of different cultures in various ways in the city where I live. Let alone the rest of the country and continent. Then add into the mix meeting people with illness and disability, people of more advanced years, having children, knowing death, knowing life itself. All these things can be gained quite locally and I would argue more likely to increase knowledge than extending the package tour to a glorified version in Goa or Thailand.

Why would I mean that?

Sounds like you're jumping to conclusions possibly based on your own experiences?

sounds like the o.p has done a fair bit of travelling, and wants now to be considered cultured and at the same time thinking less of people who have not.

if this is what travelling makes you into then ill just go to the park this year and feed the ducks

Not trying to be "holier than thou"

Then you failed, as it comes across as LOOK AT ME I HAVE TRAVELLED :p

I sort of agree with you. It certainly doesnt mean you dont know jack, but it does broaden your perspective in other ways. I was relatively late to the concept of travel but it's absolutely fantastic and I intend to do much, much more of it.

Of course what most of us consider 'travel' is just long holidays?

No.

People who have travelled tend to be just as ill informed but holier than thou and think they're more informed :p

Also they tend to form opinions on the tiny part of the country they've visited and the tiny number of people they talked to and from that moment on they're the undisputed expert on that country.

So no I completely disagree with the OP and agree with Tefal for a change :p

if you agree with my point than how can you consider my post arrogant?
