I dont know, if anyones been watching the latest Simpsons series on channel 4(of course not everyones on the internets), but am I imagining something or is something not quite right about it.

One episode, they had Bart going to juvy prison, it was done perfectly straight with all the cliches, they had Marge crying, they had Bart getting beat up and almost no lightheartedness or randomness, that they usually have in the simpsons.

Then another episode where they abandon the kids, thats it, thats the joke, with some wierd arty montage.

I'm guessing its jumped the shark, but why and where?

Some Simpsons episodes have been a bit...odd.

One of them was a St.Patricks Day episode. During the parade, it cut to a building with the Union Jack on it being blown up. Bit OTT.

I know the movie was rubbish, its very sad, all things must die. They couldnt let it go on a high note, they have to drag its corpse around.

I saw this episode tonight, it was a little strange, but had some funny bits, the bit on the bus at the start springs to mind.

A little OT, does anyone recognise the music that was used during the montage, it sounded really familiar....

Its from the movie Catch Me If You Can (think the title of the episode was something similar).

Some of the new series have been brilliant, the Seth Rogan episode was excellent. Don't get me wrong it was no season 4,5,6,7. Boy Scouts in the Hood... sugar sugar do do do do do dooo, ah hoooooonnneeeeeeyyyyyy hoooonnnneeeeeeeyyyyyy.

If you thought that was disturbing, you should have seen the Ireland episode...

... but don't say you found it offensive, or you might get lynched.

;)

Thanks for the link though. I thought it was discussed here before.

Yeah the St Patricks thing does sound a bit odd. I'm not offended by it, honest, but it does seem out of place, like your mum making a joke about sex.

The way the characters act out of character, even thought the characters are pretty loose. You know what to expect from them and then suddenly they all start acting serious, or getting drunk, its not right, like a betrayal.

This is from the most shocking episode of The Simpsons I've seen. More shocking that they actually thought it was a good idea rather than the scene being shocking.

I know Homer is hardly a role model, but I never thought they'd animate him with a needle hanging out his arm.

The problem with TS is after so many, many episodes - they ran out of ideas. Which is not surprising. But it still makes too much money to cancel it or to change things.
Personally, I would like them to jump 10 or so years into their future, so characters are older and circumstances are different. That would give the writers something to play with again.

I disagree with it being rubbish after 10/11/12 seasons. It's just progressed onwards and martured from being overly goofy. I still find it watchable. Don't forget that South Park and Family Guy rose up afterwards and they're based on being offensive, pushing the boat out. When the Simpsons do it people are surprised because they still think it a family cartoon, when it never really was supposed to be. It was just that little bit better at the beginning with its e.g double entendres.

The writers strike hit it hard. Season 17 was fantastic and witty, 18,19 and most of 20 were crap. There are some really decent ones in 21 though (if you have Sky of course).

I think the trouble is aye, they've been through a lot of scripts, the cast have been doing it for 21 seasons now. The actor for Homer especially it can be said is fast becoming less enthusiastic about his role.
