Cheapest way to call an English mobile in france?

Got a friend going to France in the next few days and would like to keep in touch, but am wondering what's the cheapest way to call a UK mobile out there? Would Skype be cheaper than a standard call?

This is without getting another sim card and stuff.

I'd have thought so...(Don't quote me on that tho) Although it'll probably cost the friend to recieve the call, which is where they bone you. Have no Idea about the costs tho.

It would cost you the same calling it if he was in the same room as you.

It would cost him a bit extra to receive.

Presuming you're still in the UK..

The amount you are charged will be whatever you're normal rate is - otherwise it would be unfair as how were you to know that phone is currently roaming abroad!?.

Send texts. Even if using skype, your friend will be paying simply to receive the call.

But then his friend wouldn't be able to reply to him without incurring extra charges

Not necessarily, if you are on an O2 contract for example you can send texts from abroad as part of your allowance. Sending one text from abroad counts as 4 domestics texts though, but receiving them is free.
