Hi Guys!

Its that time once again, I am starting my new Project, a New build from scratch, New Parts Should be:

i7 920
Asus Rampage 2
GTX295 (or should i wait for 3xx?)
6GB Corsair Dominator GT PC3-16000C8 2000MHz
60GB Corsair Reactor Series SSD
^^^ New
Existing:
BeQuiet 1500Watt PSU
300gb Velocity Raptor (Games Drive)
2x 1.5tb WD Greens
Creative X-Fi Music

Question Time:

Core i9, any ETA? worth waiting for? i read it is supposed to use the same socket? can anyone confirm?

GTX295, is it worth the wait for the 3xx Series, Is there any ETA on the 3xx?
Anything to add to that build?

Case info will be on another post, more suited, rig will be fully water cooled in a TJ07.

I am by no means an expert, but i reckon you should at least wait until there are the first reviews of the new nvidia cards, so you will know whether they are worth it or not (and even how much they will potentially cost you). I think i remember reading in the current custompc mag that they will get a card in for their next issue.

The GTX 295 is definitely not worth buying. Instead, crossfire two 5850s, get one 5870 or wait for the GTX 400 (yes 400, not 300).

400! ? ? ?! ?!

Thats a new one to my nostrils.

I am an ATI hater, even if the ATI cards were 10 fold better i still would not buy :(
I gots a GTS250, 7800 GTX and a pair of 8800Ultras, so i wont be going short.

ATi hater..? Why? They both make pieces of hardware that take care of the visual aspect of computer processing. The name on the sticker stuck to the card is not going to make any difference to the picture displayed on your screen. What does matter however is ratio of price and performance, which is unarguably in ATis favour at the moment.

I dont know why... they just always sucked for me, in "MY" Eyes they always will.

I dont have to buy any cards just yet, its going to take me 3 - 5 months to get my case the way i want it i think.

In that case I would definately wait and see what the new nvidia cards will be like.

In that case I'd focus on getting the case done. 3-5 months is plenty of time for new tech to come out and for prices to drop on current tech.

Edit: lol good timing j.bucka ^_^ Thought I double posted for a sec

Its nothing about brand its about the Software and the Drivers.

Any way, ATI... unless the facts are enough to move my stubborn attitude, i will be sticking with Nvidia.
the Rampage 2, would you all say its the one to go for?

Agreed your fanyboyism is silly but nethertheless, wait for the 400 series, as the GTX295 is about equal to the 5870 but with no DX11, higher power consumption and higher price tag, if you want to pay through the nose at least do it right and wait for the more powerfull card.

Comes out above average, i think the Rampage pips it though?
the old bang for buck issue i think?

You shouldn't be talking about bang for your pound without first eradicating your supercilious prejudices against ATi.

Panta, im sorry mate, thats old allready. I am sure you dislike a certain car, or a fashion of clothes, a certain food... the list goes on.. i dont like ATI, So what... i am asking for advise for what i am Happy with using, if i put an ATI in my rig, i will not be happy, i know the new ATI cards maybe better mate.
Thanks

3-5 months is a long time in techville. I'd wait to see what is around then before choosing components. ;)

I understand your ATI view too. I have an cautious view on ATI drivers, and it really puts me off jumping onto that bandwagon. I'm not against ATI or any manufacturer but I like to know that what I buy will work well and I don't have that trust for ATI at present.

i would really like it to be 4 - 5 weeks but i think i need to wait for the next gen GPU's

Is there *ANY idea on an ETA for them?
