The Official Football Manager 2010 Thread

Trequartista, seems to cause him to drop into that hole a lot, he's got more assists than goals for me so far (he's about 12 in 16, 9 goals) I think this combination of complete forward and a trequartista is the best I've found. The only problem is I've got several who can play the Treq really well, but finding another Dzeko is challenging, other players that seem to have the right stats just aren't playing it as well.

Hmm I find that Aguero seems to work better as a poacher than Trequartista but perhaps I should try again next season.

Having problems with my defence; they all are slipping from averages of 7 to the high 6s. The DCs in particular are dropping their average ratings quite a bit; Rio, Vidic and Evans. Rio was 17 for pace, he's now 14. I think I might try and sell him and use the cash his transfer would generate to get a younger replacement in. Would be helpful to get £110k a week off the wage bill and perhaps use it to pay for 2 players' wages. :)

I won the title and have scored the most goals so far; on conceding however I'm 3rd or 4th behind Chelsea and Liverpool, probably Arsenal as well. I need to work out what I'm doing wrong with my defence and see if I can tighten things up. My assistant manager keeps telling me to play teams with a slightly high defensive line; wondering if I should pull back a bit?

I'm looking forward to my first online game of this, some work colleagues and friends of mine are starting an online game at the start of March. Got a server ready at home to host it, hoping it will be fun, been playing the FM games and CM when it was called that for over a decade but never played an online game of it.

We've set a few ground rules, one of which is that nobody can pick to start as any of the "big 4".

Honestly I think defending is just a bit crap on 2010, it doesn't seem like i can stop conceding whatever instructions I give, players marking is just terrible. The number of goals I concede where the defender has just stopped marking the man is ridiculous, and I have two world class defenders.

Do you play with a holding midfielder?

As for a DC, I recommend Sakho. He is a top class player.

Sounds like what happens to me. I was playing against Genoa last night away in the first leg of the Euro cup semi final. I was 2-0 up when in the 87th minute one of their strikers was practically sitting on the DCs' shoulders when the ball was fed in and he ran off after it. Rio I think was the DC immediately next to him just behaved as if the striker wasn't there and just let him run off. The number of times a striker or a player who is just about to score walks past a defender is just striking.

Gonna start a game with a new team, probably another low leaguer again (like my Rimini game), feel like having a long term FM game again :p

Not too sure who, though...

Give southampton a go if you want a team that will make you throw a laptop out a window... (honestly real life performance of the team some times matches the game of just not being able to play football consistently) Plus you get papa waigo for a season which if fun, till the novelty of doing the papa waigo wears off and you notice hes probably the worst player in existence (apart from graeme lee).

Brings me to my second suggestion, Notts County! Just so you can ruin graeme lee's career by waping him in the reserves team and selling him to a blue square south team for a quid (WHERE HE BELONGS!!!). Yeah i have an irrational hatred of him since 09 where he was at Bradford and RUINED MY LIFE!!!

And a final random even lower league one is take my new home town of st albans up! :D (its really really really hard as no one wants to invest in the team so getting out of the bss is a bit of a challenge...)

Yeah ideally thinking League One and lower, get a decent parent club. I don't think I have the patience for Blue Square anymore :p

Well notts co dont really get good parent teams (had man city for a bit once but that only lasted a season as 3 successive promotions is pretty easy with them). Soton are really a bigger feeder club as well....

Urm Bury have man city, man u, everton and preston as parent clubs wich is a bit of a lark as they all have really good youth setups to poach (well it was fun last season). Darlington get middlesbrough and they are not all that good....

For a real challenge give dag n redbridge a go, they are RUBBISH!

Oh yeah and a late thought for someone really really challenging, try shrewsbury. In theory they could win the league every season, but every single time iv ever played as them they just dont have the ability to leave l2....

Finished a season with Bury...went quite well, although my board screwed me over a bit. They put in a transfer embargo about October iirc, and I was unable to renew loans, sign ANYONE apart from freebies (all season).

Signings I made were quite good, Petrucci, Brandy, Nimely, Gray, Beto, Lolley, McDonald all played a bit part, while they could anyway!

Beto finished with 43 starts, 6 goals and 12 assists, which wasn't too bad overall.

Andy Bishop finished on 37 starts, 23 goals and 6 assists, with Brandy doing well too.

I had to play pretty much December with no loanees on a very small team;

Went well though, managed to finish 1st (I did have a 20pt gap, but went on a losing streak after losing my loanees);

Would conclude a bit more, but not much else to say, other than i'm ****** for next season :D

Nice one! And you missed l2 gold of michael mifsud!!!!! :(

L1 is in my view the hardist league to get through (though its still possible with good loan signings or plenty of cash) as you struggle to get real quality in....

Best tip is to do the player search of who's out of contract a month (or 3 months) before everyones put up for free transfers in july. For my championship run I got Louis Saha!!! :D (and upon getting notts co to the prem i picked up jo and yakubu on free's)

I did try for Misfud but wouldn't join me! The reason i got Beto was the signing on fee, lol!

I'm gonna rely on again loanee's, but hopefully make sure I get big names for the long term, and maybe grab again more 33+ year olds in the last year of their career.

I believe the phrase to be OWNED!!!!

Free transfers is the only way forth now.... :cool:

I've gone a bit OTT with the whole free transfers, I'm about 6.5k over my wage budget :D. At least my team is decent, right? I'll sort that out later :p

Signed about 24 players (sent back a few though) and sold/released 18-19 iirc.

Some absolute gems in there though!

Highlighted ones have been sent back due to injury, and i've loaned out a couple of the signings. Heres the squad atm, with excess players :p

Doing quite well, getting a few lucky wins, and Petrucci/Tremolada are doing well for me.

Out;

The last release was to trim £1k off my wages too, lol!

i have a few questions chaps, im a follower of fm but yet to fully get into fm2010 im torn betweentwo teams who are man utd (as a fan) and everton as a challanger to the big 4.im leaning towards everton as they are the best out of the non big 4 with regards to youth setups for the future.all they need is wingers (angel di maria) and ryan shawcross,rodwell +shawcross=win

man utd might be pretty boring as that genius alex ferguson has 10 out of thier future starting 11 already at old trafford apart from an attacking left back(pref english but doubtful as attacking lb's aint norm english!) and its a stonkin squad irl so good i bet i could go through fm2010 without spending a penny and still be successful.

i really am only interested in a goalkeeper for united so i ask,who is the best keeper akinfeev? hes 23 and if bought in first season can be tutored by van der sar, he lacks the aeriel ability i guess lloris has though?

and whats so good about dzeko? i dont even think i need a striker for man u as diouf looks class but i may for everton so please enlighten me!
