Off to Hong Kong :D

Watch for the way people use mobile phones, they listen then move it away form their ears they talk very quickly then put it back.

As with anywhere be careful about littering, but be extra careful even with organic items like a piece of popcorn.

but even old ladies in market stalls should be able to handle basic things regarding selling and buying.

Good fun bartering with smaller shops, market stalls etc .. even if they don't speak english ... handing a calculator back and forth :p

Also if you're buying electronics be careful of shops trying to rip you off ... when I went to buy a digital camera I researched market price etc. before so I knew what model I wanted, and what I should pay.

First of all they must have fiddled with the settings and showed me a camera worth less than half , took a picture which came out much better than the camera I was looking to buy (obviously changed settings) and once I'd made clear the model I wanted etc. they were trying to sell me the accessories that should come with it at extra cost

Make sure you go for a beer in Lan Kwai Fong, that's the bar/nightclub district, I just pitched up there on my tod and ended up drinking with a bunch of other travellers till 3am :)
Definitely take the Star ferry to the mainland, it's about 50p or so, plus you get some great views of HK Island on the way in/out.
Check out the tech markets at Sham Shui Po in Kowloon, you can pick up some bargains there if you shop around. If it's ridiculously hot and humid, get into the IFC mall (just south of the Star Ferries harbour) and chill in the A/C mall :)
Definitely do the Peak Tram, there's a couple of walks you can do around the peak with spectactular views.

Also try heading over to Macau, doesn't cost much and only takes around 45 minutes on the fast ferry (or you can go via helicopter for around £200 each way which takes just 15 minutes)

I went to Hong Kong for Christmas (my sister lives there)

Have fun, explore on your own, it's a safe place.

I didn't find it expensive compare to here really , but then again areas geared towards westeners are always more expensive (eg. LKF)

LKF was about same prices as other areas in terms of drinks £5-7 a pint

The bars in LKF were actually very nice, problem was I have never seem so many ****ers in one place :p

The chinese bars drove me mad, WTF is that game they play with what seems like a load of dice in a cup, either way the noise is deafening :p

Octopus cards are great (pretty much the same as Oyster card in UK) you can also use them in 7-11, and if I remember rightly in Mc Donalds as well. You can even get on the train to Shen Zhen with one, but doesn't work in SZ unfortunately!

Oh yeah can't forget the food - eating out in small local places is great, and cheap. There's a restaurant hidden on every small street, no need to go to TGI Fridays ;)

Speaking of McDonalds, they are incredibly cheap there. We had 3 meals for about £4 or something.

I can't remember how that game works, last time I played it got far too wasted ... don't get involved anymore :p

I've always wanted to go to HK as i have allot of freinds from out there. Had 2 trips there cancelled over the years but it is somewhere i will go when i get the chance.

I love the far East in general its a great part of the world. Though i have mixed feelings about Seoul at the moment.

Chinese Karaoke / Korean Karaoke / English Karaoke its all bad.... But its worse when they make you sing!
