Gaddafi Urges Holy War Against Swizterland

Switerland - The most racist country ????

Have you ever stayed in the US for any length of time, or Australia - or even various parts of the UK ? And what about most of India, the middle East or even France. All of these places have real racism problems. Do you realise some nationalities are treated like slaves, beaten, abused in Saudi and the UAE and no one really minds....

Swiss people to me, appeared warm, friendly and a lot more approachable than dozens of places i've been. Different nationalities worked and went out together without problems - and there was never any issues when we visited different cities there. In fact I would say it's one of the least racist countries in the world - they just like preserving their identity, one of the reasons it's such a beautiful country, when half of Europe has turned into a cesspit.

Considering that the construction of a minaret has no actual basis in Islam as part of its religion, it is not mentioned in the Quran or anywhere in Islamic holy texts, its actual function is to symbolise a place where Islamic (sharia) law is established I feel that the Swiss are fully justified in the Ban. This is Switzerland, not Saudi after all.

You cannot build a Church in Saudi at all, so Gaddafi's anouncement reeks of hypocracy at best, incitement to racial hatred at worst. The fact that his Son was arrested and accused of assault in Geneva of course means nothing...

I've lived in the UK for 20 years and the US for well over a year. The US, where I stayed, was the most multi-culturally friendly place I've ever lived.

Now, don't think i'm generalising over the the whole population, I'm not. Most swiss people are some of the nicest in Europe - warm, friendly, courteous. But there are many racists here. Somewhat more of an old-fashioned skin-colour based racism, much like the BNP party really. You see old women shouting at black guys on the bus that they shouldn't be allowed on public transport - the scenes are like something out of 1930s America.

Doesn't D.P. live in Switzerland and has for a few years now?

Yes, 3.5 years now. I have many swiss friends and foreign friends (not a single British friend over here, I don't want to live in some Brit-ex-pat never living the local life stuck in Geneva thing). I read and watch the news most days.

To be honest in my time living in Switzerland Ive had a few racial run-ins. Im brown skinned, mixed asian descent.
I found that most of the racism in Switzerland was coming from the eastern european immigrants, albanians and croats/serbs. Ive been out on occasions there and got called a ******, which made me laugh because Im not even black.
One of my friends is ginger and he got into a fight with a load of albanians, who started harrassing him by calling him scottish!!
Plus the restaurant I used to eat at everyday opposite work had the most racist chef working in there. He wouldnt even serve me and my friend (who was black) and used to be quite obvious for his dislike of us.
Having said all that, Ive experienced the same amount of racism growing up in England!

I am pretty positive that the neo-nazi's are a very small minority in Switzerland, just as they are in most Western European countries. The BNP in the UK are no more representative of the average Briton than the UDC were for the average Swiss. I feel that you are trying to mis-represent the real political situation in Switzerland despite you living there.

Sure, many countires unfortunately have nazis. But the UDC is the most blatant overtly racist party in the western world that can achieve a majority vote. The poster of the black sheep was plastered all over Switzerland, and many similar racists posters - all over the towns, cities, trains, stations.

You wont find the BNP putting such posters on the London underground very often!

Except the SVP (UDC) is a right leaning centerist conservative party, not the overtly racist far-right nazi's you make them out to be. By adding a neonazi picture to the SVP one you are mis-representing them.

I do not condone racism in any shape or form, neither do I condone the mis-representation of anyone either.

Correct: a minority of racists, mostly in the German speaking part, voted to ban minarets

Well if this is true...

By the way voter turnout was unusually high for the minaret vote at 53% (compare that to UK or EU elections). The ban was passed by 57% of voters.

And this is true. Does that mean you consider over 25% of the population to be racists D.P.? :p:p

Gaddafi's son gets arrested for being violent to hotel staff.
Minarets are banned as they're a blot on the landscape.

RIGHT LADS, JIHAD!!! TALLY-HO!

Seems proportional to me.

No, the UDC is a very right wing party, that is fine. But it also has strong ties with Nazism and is a known for racists ideals.

The picture I posted of the nazi-like elimination of black sheep is an official UDC poster, used everywhere.

This was the racist poster used in the minaret campain:

This was deemed illegal in many Cantons and it was forbidden to be displayed in public. In most of the German speaking part it was not illegal. And the poster had a strong effect. Weeks before the vote the % vote for banning the minarets was less than 35%. After the poster was published on every street the banning vote increased just enough to succeed.

It might also have been the fact that people with right wing views are less likely to admit them to a pollster and so the view was under represented in the polls.

Care to tell us what they are?

Since you asked, sure:

- Economy based on Nazi gold stolen from other European nations
- Secrecy laws allow Swiss based companies to break laws with impunity
- Tax evasion being legal and actively encouraged there
- Lewis Hamilton
