Ok So I was in the uk last weekend and managed to get myself a couple of speeding tickets.

I hold a Czech Driving licence but am a named driver in the uk (insurance company knows its a Czech licence)

So what will happen to the points?

i take it you spend more time in prague then ?

as there are limits to how long you can stay in the UK and use a foreign license.

There are, but if it's an EU licence it's a lot less strict.

Residents

If you have a valid community licence, this will allow you to drive in GB for the period set out below.Alternatively, you can exchange your licence for a British licence.

Provided your licence remains valid you may drive in GB:

Car, motorcycle driving licence holders (ordinary driving licence):

* until aged 70 or for three years after becoming resident, whichever is the longer period

wonder how they define "becomming a resident"

is this gaining a UK passport ?
No, that would be becoming a British Citizen.

Residency in purely where you live. Anyone who has an address in the UK, be it temporary or permanent, is a resident.

Was a guy on this traffic police programme, was a random stop turns out he had a Czech licence and finding out more he was using this while living here and working in the UK for 5 years, more calls to the DVLA and he had 9 points on a 'Ghost licence' I presume this is where you have a foreign licence but when you get points you go on a ghost licence and when you convert this to a UK type the points get carried over. The show said limit is the same 12 points and you are banned from driving in the UK.

so if the OP owns a house here, then he is technically a resident. In which case he's got 3 years from when he bought the house to buy a UK license.
The OP would only be a resident if he resides at that address. For example, if he was letting the property then he wouldn't be a resident.

Either way, the law states until aged 70 or 3 years of residence, whichever is the longer period

So he's got until his 70th birthday :p

Or been a resident for 3 years.
as above

Thanks for the info.

I spend most of my time in Czech as I work there buy my soon to be wife lives in the uk so I fly back on weekends.

Did you get them on purpose?

No, its just that I my misses has a 335i and it’s really easy to speed without noticing you are going so fast, also we only have a few cameras here to I am not normally too careful when it comes to that sort of thing.

Ah well live and learn.
