"Darkfall is about to have its first birthday and to celebrate we’ve decided to offer a Darkfall trial.

You can now try Darkfall for a week for a symbolic price: 1Euro (EU servers) or $1 (NA Servers). After the seven days are up, users need to purchase the Darkfall client in order to continue.

We recommend that you download the Darkfall Client before purchasing the Darkfall trial to maximize your playing time.

Following are links where you can create an account, download Darkfall and get the Darkfall Trial:

European Servers:

We’ve done quite a bit of work to prepare for this trial. We’ve made several updates to improve the new player experience, for example by adding Newbie Protection, and have taken measures so that the trial doesn’t become disruptive for current subscribers. We’ve chosen to include symbolic pricing as a minimum commitment, to protect the existing user-base experience. We’ve also taken major steps to further improving our cheat detection and GM tools. We have a no-tolerance policy to exploiting and cheating and we will be strictly enforcing our policies as always.

Community Publishers promoting the trial will earn their publisher fee as usual whenever a trial account is upgraded to a full account.

We hope that you enjoy checking out Darkfall."

Surely they could just make it so that you cant trade/chat on trial accounts like other MMO trials?

I mean its a nothing cost, just curious as to the thought behind it

I guess it stops people signing up just to grief people though. That said, for a week of full-on griefing action I'd happily pay 1 EUR/USD :)

If its anything like UO, there isnt much grief a brand new player can do to an existing player :)

Been waiting for a trial though to see how it compares to UO, so will give it a spin.

Perhaps there's something else then.. Dunno. There must be a reason behind it :)

Either to stop players creating alts to gather resources (only allowed one character per account) or gold farmers

Must be other ways to prevent that though, I mean LOTRO has a 14 day trial and doesnt feel the need to have a charge on it to prevent alt farming. (would have thought that blocking the ability to trade on a trial account would achieve the same end sufficiently)

So what is it like? is it worth 7 days of my time?

It's an MMO.

As with all modern MMO's, you have one or more keys for grinding XP/faction/honor, one or more keys to shout "newb", "anal", or "OMGWTF hax!", and other keys to log off and release what a completely unsatisfactory experience you just had.

Isn't that pretty much all MMOs these days? Think they whole genre really died for me somewhere around 2003. The pioneering days (UO, EQ) were decent. Back then it was all one big community, instead of guilds stroking their PVE e-peens and pre-teens shooting rude word in barrens chat.

But if you missed them glory days... you're SOL.
