And also nice how Obama has refused to back us after all we have done for America.

Sooner they get the republicans back in the better.

I would agree with you only if Obama actually gives the Argentinians any support. As he hasn't, it is exactly the same level of political support (i.e. none) Reagan gave.

When war did kick off and the US gave logistical support it soured relations with the South Americans quite a bit, so why do that now when there is no real need? The UN can't do anything unless it goes to the UNSC and we have a veto there so if it does make it, it goes nowhere. It gains the US absolutely nothing by supporting us at this time and loses us nothing either.

Tbh i dont blame him...its got nothing to do with the Americans and the last thing he wants is for America to get involved in another messy affair...plus hes trying to get America back up on its feet....good decision by him i say...nothing to do with them...and its not his fault that Bliar decided to stick his tongue permanently up Bush's backside...that has absolutely nothing to do with him. Kudos to him for actually refusing help.

LOL at get the republicans back in...yeh sure thats exactly what the Americans need...another gun toting cowboy in charge:p

I see what you are saying, it would gain the US another enemy if they did support us which they could do without.

Ahh, these dirty Argies are starting to annoy me. I hope they do attack (even though it will never happen) just so we can show them who's the best again.

I quite liked this bit from the article you linked.

Times said:
A much-touted meeting between Jorge Taiana, the Argentine Foreign Minister, and Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary-General, ended without the response Buenos Aires had hoped for. Mr Ban merely “took note of Argentina’s concerns”.

In other words they have gone running to the Americans after the UN said, "Why are you wasting your time with the UN when the UK has a veto?"

It loses public faith in the Government when it's already at an all time low. We've spent the last 10 years under Bush bending over backwards for the US and they're now refusing to help us. I don't care about their position with the South American countries, we've been made to look bad in front of the whole world in our support for them. It just makes me (and I imagine a sizable portion of the population) think "great, what a fantastic deal Labour got out of it all"

If I was Gordon Brown I'd be absolutely fuming

What Obama has done is spot on. we want everyone to stay out of this business. Not in a million years was Obama going to back either. He has done exactly what i imagine the UK and US have agreed on.

I agree, this county has bent over backward to help them over the past 8 years or so, and what do they do noting? When they want something its ok, then when we ask for support its a no go. Totally lost the lack of respect for them now. Pull our forces out ASAP and leave them to it, they will see what a huge mistake they made.

The US is not joining either side, which is fine. No need for them to get involved.

I think by backing us it would have escalated the situation beyond what it is now. And given Argentina a bigger victim / bullied card to play

As far as I am aware we haven't asked them for support. I think it would even weaken our position if we did.

If the Americans declare their support for the Argentines, that's it I want our troops out of Iraq and Afghanistan right away. I know it's extremely unlikely they will even do anything of the sort, but the mere act of neutrality instead of support for the British is incredibly and utterly abhorent considering all the sacrifices we have made for them.

I will be a little sick in my stomach if the US makes even the slightest motion or hint of support to the Argentines.

In what way? You think they'd be stupid enough to try something on when they'd be taking on us and the US?

They wouldn't stand a chance of taking the Falklands by force even if we were left on our own.

It's been discussed at length in the other Falklands thread :D

We shouldn't have to.

The fact that they've not to the Argies to **** off when they've come running for help is reason enough to completely pull out of all US backed military activities imo.

Our Government really needs to grow a pair.
