Did anyone watch this? I am not sure about this "experiment" (cynic in me thinks the BBC picked the most unlikely candidates), but the interviews with the employers gave a fascinating insight into worker demand vs. work availability before and after the immigration waves (basically, the concensus was that after 1997, job applications started drying up before the immigrants came in from Eastern Europe).

Managed to catch the ending of it. Was interesting and I was surprised that they where so forward with what groups worked the hardest out of immigrants etc. I must have been too much around people that would call racism at the tiniest things I guess.

would it be true to say that without immigrants employers would have to raise wages until it became attractive to people, also i think the English people should have been paid far more considering the comparative wage between these poorer EU countries and ours. i would work a lot harder if i got say 3 times my current wage.

i personally think this experiment was flawed.

Which would increase the price of products and services by a massive amount crippling us.

I'm sorry but I know people who come to the UK that love to and be educated and on the other hand I know British people who can't be bothed to work who choose to be on the dole and not get off their backside because they think why should they.

This country is damn too soft and needs to harden up right now!!!!

yep watched it and showed what I always thought.
People these days are far to lazy and just use any excuse.
I've done those crap jobs, nearly everyone can do them and keep up if they want to.

Like the guy who applied for 200 jobs. I bet your attitude and stupidity came through on your CV.

All the programme did was compare the best aspect of immigrants (able and efficient workers at low skilled jobs) against one of the worst factors of native brits (i.e. that some are lazy and uneducated scroungers).

I'd like to see them do another programme next week showing the increase in crime and lower morale migrants have brought to the county.

I watched this on iPlayer and it was so predictable, the BBC Applicants were quite obviously whittled down to who would make the best TV and they would not have had much of a programme if they had chosen Applicants who actually just did the jobs and got on with it, would they?

There were some interesting points in the programme, shame the BBC decided to skew most of it though.

How was it a waste? I thought it highlighted the rather well known premise that low skilled Brits have a crap work ethic.

Isn't it also a benefit issue, i mean if one gets more or less the same on benefits is there any real incentive to work, also the unemployed ex drain workers have contributed taxes in the past.

Not 100% sure but arn't immigrants not entitled to benefits unless they have kids, so they come here and work then send the money home, however once the realise the high costs of living then move back home or share 10 to a house.

its nothing to do with being immigrant or w/e the employer takes a person who can do the job and does it good instead of some lazy ass knob who will sit and complain all day.. they need working power not "British" only.. some of their comments are stupid.. "they took our jobs" pfft.. :D im not talking about all of the British people lol.. just those in the show
