Anybody else here that loves tools...?

Ahh, It looks very similar to that one :(.

It's the thought that counts... It'll still going back though :p.

I got the black "industrial" toolbox set, cant fault it... I think it is around £300 at the moment... comes with drawer liners etc.

I love tools!

Ive treated myself to some new tools after getting most of my old tools stolen from the shed :(

Ive picked up this tool chest for £49.99. Now i know its no where near as good as the professional range but i still think its a bargain.

also got these to put in it

Flexi-head ratchet spanners - reduced from £64 to £51 plus an extra 15% off and had a £25 gift card so only cost about 20quid out of my pocket!

Ive already got a decent 1/2" socket set but wanted to supplement it with a 3/8" and 1/4" set so picked up these 2 on half price (3/8" set was 19.99 and the 1/4" was 14.99) Also had £20 voucher for these :)

Also needed a new jack - i did intend on getting the 3ton one but then came across this 2.25ton one for £34.99 (again had vouchers :))

3/8 drive airgun.

1/2 drive airgun, mines bright green though.

And i also bought a set of long 10-19mm long spanners, no pics of my own though at the mo as i can't find the lead for my phone!.
:)

I've started again with my tools (since a load of them are still in the back of a BMW 530i somewhere in Eastern Europe...).

I splashed out on the Halfords 1/4 & 3/8 100 piece tray set as opposed to the 150 piece £99 kit. Reason being as the 150 piece is short of deep sockets which I have a bit of a fetish for, and it also comes with spanners which I've already got a load of (2 sets of ratchet spanners, 1 halfords set and one Lidl set). I then got the 1/2 drive kit they do in the carry box, again because it came with a full selection of deep sockets.

I currently need a pry bar set, some trim tools, a DECENT ratchet screwdriver (really important as it'll be the tool I'll use the most), a full set of pliers (Side cutters, short needle nose, long neck needle nose, a large and medium set of clam pliers, 'normal' pliers) and a pick set (My fingers are too fat for undoing connectors with ease!). Any suggestions? I really don't want to be spending Snap on prices, and have been looking towards some of the cheap stuff on ebay.

Also, Clarke boxes, at they anygood?

I'm also considering splashing out on one of those cordless 1/2 impact guns. It'd make sense seeing as how I could use it at home/track days as opposed to an air gun which would be useless to me in anyplace other than the workshop. I've heard of the Snap On "Daddy" gun having enough power to snap nuts and bolts with ease at full power, and I cannot help but be impressed! :D

And finally, any ideas on a good mutimeter?

do mechanics buy their own tools then ?

What happens when you leave your workplace on a night, is all of your stuff covered by your employers insurance ? there must be thousands of pounds worth of tools left in garages on a night.

Stop getting ideas! :p

Yep, most mechanics do have to buy their own tools (which as I am finding out, can very easily run into the Thousands!), although I have heard that some apprenticeship programmes present completed apprentices with Tools once they've completed the course. Generally there are workshop tools for special/specific tasks, but you could not get buy without your own basic stuff!

Good point about the insurance. I assume that it is covered by our employers insurance, but they've never mentioned it, neither has there ever been a stock check to see who has what, and how much it cost... That's probably why everybody keeps their boxes completely locked up when they go home! :D

I can't help myself at all. I'm in the trade ad dI still use Halfords socket sets. I've had a 1/2 inch set for over 10 years now, can't fault it, I've recently bought their 150 piece set, the 65 piece 3/8 set a 1/4 set and some screw drivers.
I'm proud of my Sealey anodised spanners that I've never used and never intend to!
I love my Sealey cordless impact wrench.
Next thing is a new tool box, I'm looking into the Costco ones, I like Snap-on, Mac etc, but as far as boxes go, they really are overpriced, so cool and good quality but overpriced. There are a few at work who suffer from mytoolboxpenisisbiggerthanyours and must have biggest/best (most expensive)

Insurance? I always insured my own when on teh tools, never trusted the companys insurance. The comany will likely have to pay the excess anyway.

I bought one of the half price halfords sets the other day, well 199 down to 89, seems a bargain really - well pleased with them :)

I blame this topic for buying them !!

Sounds like the 120 piece set, I was deliberating between that and the 150 piece, the 150 has allen keys, a few more bits and some extra spanners, I thought for the extra tenner it was worth it.
TBH I actually prefer their std ratchets; the ones with the acrylic body, you get a better grip and more importantly they aren't as cold in the winter! As previous post, had the 1/2 and 3/8 ratchets for years, easy the strip, clean and lube too.

I still love tools, been building up my soldering gear lately, the cheapest automatic wire stripper in [navigation_paper][tumble_dryer_fluff] works brilliantly.

Next item is a 3rd hand and a magnetic gorillapod. ;)

I've got the same; lovely tool and very very powerful for it's small size. Ideal for releasing gearbox-to-engine bolts etc.

The top rubber cover will come off, I'll warn you of that!!

Not exactly tools, but I've been 'playing' around with a metal working lathe as of late and I really want one. I could spend hours making things that serve no purpose. :D

Funny you should post that.. it was only yesterday that I was thinking it's a while since I spent some time out in the garage doing something pointless on mine. :D

moslty have beta, cant afford snap-on, although the tool chest has been sprayed red, just like snap-on! seem to be collection air tools, hate having to take a nut of with a manual spanner. Have a nice collection of whitworth, mostly in brown colour! still used often.

I find good tools come in handy when trying to undo rusted bolts in hard to reach places.

Nice power tools work better also. Even things like a nice drill can make quite a difference. I quite like Metabo power tools.

I do use cheap tools most of the time however, when fiddling with the bike or taking apart electronic things...
