To be fair, it's a matter of simple maths and statistics, I'll use the NL as an example, the average Dutch family has about 1.2 children, the average Turkish/Moroccan family has 4.
A big city near me, has these kinds of demographics:
1995 2000 2005
Dutch 64,5% 59,4% 54,3%
Foreigners 35,5% 40,6% 45,7%
Turks 6,0% 6,8% 7,6%
Moroccans 4,1% 5,1% 6,1%
Surinamese 7,8% 8,5% 8,8%
People from the Antilles 2,0% 2,7% 3,4%


Every 5 years, there are more and more foreigners, what will happen in a 100 years, will the foreigners outnumber the Dutch ? Will the NL turn into a muslim country ? People don't want that...
I can imagine the Swiss do not want to become a Muslim country either... They want to keep their country as it is.


Can you imagine what would happen if someone would start building Churches around in Muslim countries, Christians in Turkey get intimidated, beat up and have to come together undercover. There is no chance they would allow Christian or even Jewish immigrants to start building churches ( church towers), cathedrals, synagogues...

iirc it's been repeatedly shown after 2 or even just 1 generation immigrants descendents birth rates drop to the same as the native populations.

TBh I'd rather we make our laws based on what is right rather than what some backwards middle eastern country does.

last church built in turkey was 550 years ago , Byzantine era.

Gadaffi is an idiot, the biggest threat he ever posed was supplying the ira with arms, 1 shipment got through, the other was apprehended (the eksund trawler), for his troubles he got a gold plated carriage clock and an alsatian dog as a gift from the ira's south armagh commander, thomas (slab) murphy, then a nice wee air raid from the yanks.

Try building a new one now with a massive high church tower, ringing every Sunday morning in the middle of the city... Like call to prayer is heard five times a day from a minaret...

After 2 or 1 generations, I'll be what, 50 by then ? As long as new immigrants keep coming it'll keep happening though.

I must admit I haven't done the maths, but I still think there's something wrong with how those people behave, eg. only getting 4+ children to claim more child benefits ( which some ( hopefully a minority) undoubtedly do) or trying to become the majority.

And people going to them suffer violence from some others... The government seems to ignore it/look the other way. Google articles mainly brings stuff from 2008 but I'm pretty sure I watched a report about it on tv here recently. People get beat up for being Christian/attending small undercover churches and the government/police don't do anything about it.

Perhaps. Initially I was against a minaret ban when I've heard of it ( I thought ''oh well who cares let them build their minarets''), but thinking about it for a while, I'd think it's a good thing for Switzerland. As spie said it doesn't fit in the landscape, can you imagine going on a holiday for the landscape, for the mountains and grasslands and villages and cows and a huge minaret stands out from somewhere ? I don't think minarets belong in Switzerland.

Which could easily be sorted by just tighening planning laws saying all buildings must "fit in with the local architecture". A specific ban on minarets really wasn't needed.

We keep hearing that, but then we have never been in this situation before, ever. The developed world has never before been subject to massive immigration of Muslims and it remains to be seen whether their birth rate will fall to the native level. What we do know is that, due to immigration and birth rate, currently the percentage of Muslims in developed countries is rocketing. And with it, their influence and power.

To be safe we should restrict Muslim immigration - indeed we should have done so years ago before we got to this point.

We have had immigration from pakistan since the 1950s so about 3 generations worth (going on the 20 years to a generation). Completely anecdotal I know but most of the muslims I know who are 2nd generation only have the standard 1 or 2 kids.
