How can Xbox360's still be so powerful?

xbox's dont have such a good display, plugged into my tv both via HDMI a movie (for example) from a camrecorder has a lot better quality via my laptop the picture is more crisp and a lot clearer. in my eyes the xbox360 seems kinds blurrd.

It isn't, In the last 5 years there has been 5 Different Motherboards, 4 different optical drives, 3 or 4 different power supply's, 3 different fans, various different heatsinks etc etc
Just Like GTS 250 is of same design as ancient 8800GTX.

It's same old slow junk tweaked for cheaper manufacturing!
(or cheaper component if available)

You mean just as the PS4 comes out?
Sony might not afford to make second PS3 meaning CPU an GPU wouldn't be so high end aiming even if released in schedule.

But will they stop making popular games on the PC, when so many more play them on consoles?

Is PC gaming really worth the extra hundreds of pounds? (I do prefer PC gaming very much)

I must admit to getting pretty sick of all this PC's are to expensive Baloney.
Yes they are expensive if you want to buy retail & have the latest hardware. If you are prepared to buy 2nd hand & choose New hardware carefully they are not expensive at all even compared to a 360 + extras + games.

I do Not want to get into a Flame war & Trust that readers will not bother going into one to try to convince me of this Untruth.

Just out of interest... (And Malc sounds like the guy for the job ;))

Can anyone spec a PC "Console" build... to be run through an HD TV at 1080? and capable of running PC versions of games that are available on XBox 360 about as well as a 360?

I'd be very interested as it would allow my wife to play PC games with me, on a budget , and in a way she's most comfortable playing?

Plus I'm sure it'd be interesting to see what price it comes in at...

I sure you could pick something up from the purple shirt brigade that fits the bill :D

Owning both, this is the way I see it. I do like my PC but if I was asked to justify it over my PS3 in terms of cost I would struggle. When a multi-platform games comes out the sales figures might be (being generous) 50% XBox 360, 40% PS3 and 10% PC. This means a couple of things, first of all no one wants to spend the extra money developing a seperate PC version just so that it will look 3x better. It's better for them to 'port' it over and patch it up as best they can which usually results in it needing a PC 2-3 times as powerful of the console versions. Ther other thing is, even though people moan about 'console ports', how many extra sales would it actually make? Realistically? 20,000? 50,000? There's no way they could justify the cost. Because of this, consoles are holding back PC games. Who is going to make a cutting edge PC game that won't run on consoles? Ok there's that 3 years old game called Crysis but look what's happening with Crysis 2. Multi-platform and I doubt the PC version will be much different to the console versions. For every other NEW PC-only game you might think of, there would be 5 console only games. Look at the current/upcoming games that people are talking about. Heavy Rain, Alan Wake, Forza 3, GT5, Rock Band, Uncharted 2. Those games don't even span 12 months and there are always more around the corner. and then a bunch of multi-platform games that don't vary much version to version because they are made with consoles in mind.

Many PC owners think that consoles are just toys and 'look terrible'. All platforms have bad games but if I'm honest, my PS3 continues to impress me. I suppose it's a bit like trying to explain to an American that many UK cars have a 1.0 litre engine but they do actually move:o

I think as games and platforms advance over the years (or maybe we should step back slightly and say decades) each increment of technology becomes less vital than the last which is why the current consoles are no where near being replaced, it's just not worth it yet. The average casual gamer would not be impressed with a PS4 that was just a PS3 that ran at 1080p 60fps with 4xAA.

Many people converted from the PC to a console this generation and I think that when the day comes that the next gen consoles are released, many more will do the same.

According to various reports, Crysis 2 on PC looks infinitely better than Crysis 2 on consoles. The latter even has objects simply disappearing at ~100m, way worse quality textures etc.

Either way, that's why we have cross-platform engines like UnrealEngine 3, CryEngine 3 etc, so developers can make their games using those engines and have it take care of portability. Another benefit of PCs is: Well, tell me when you see a console running a game over 6 monitors.

Ps. I'd happily play using a console if I didn't have to pay extra for the console, every single game, all the subscriptions or w/e, actually had a mouse and keyboard, and was able to do things like alt tabbing out of my games, multitasking, running games in windowed mode, run software like SRS to make everything sound better, download stuff at the same time, listen to music in the background, quicksave/quickload, have an ingame console, supersampling, insane view distances or was able to mod my games, download high resolution texture packs, patches etc.

Yeah, then I'd be about convinced.

Games run on 360 smoothly because they are designed to run on 1 spec, The 360s. Sometimes 2 similar specs, The 360s and PS3s.

PC is a different ball game, Games are designed to run on varying specs

* the better the machine, the better the game will look and run.

* The worse the machine, The worse the game will look and yet with altering settings could run perfect.

* And then there are machines that just dont have a chance

Financially the PC will always struggle to compete with consoles. The flexibility of the PC platform generally, the ability to pick and choose settings to suit your system/preferences and of course, the ability to use a keyboard/mouse in FPS games are certainly worth the extra for me.

My worry is that PC games will gradually disappear in favour of console games. FPS games are already coming out as bad ports of console versions. The MMORPGs are probably the last great bastion of PC gaming.
Struggle is putting it lightly, it doesn't even begin to compete. When you can go out and buy a PS3 or Xbox360 for less than what it would cost to buy the latest graphics card for your PC (nevermind everything else you'd need to go with it), it just seems absurd. I don't think you can even compare the two for this reason. Each appeals for different reasons. They are far from mutually exclusive... I own a PS3 and a PC, and play games on them both... as do many people.

As long as the PC market stays strong, and people continue to want to upgrade etc. then there will be PC games. They use PC's to make the things in the first place! Exactly where the industry will be in 10 years time though will be very interesting to see.

I usually think this, but all they can do is game, unlike pc.

+ Such as GTA IV, the PC detail is 3x better than 360 + you don't just have a little game obsessed OS, and you could be streaming music or doing anything else at the same time...

+ PC gaming should never die out, even if I still like abit of a 'late' session on Live :)

Well exactly... and there are so many other benefits to having the latest i7 processor overclocked to the limit and 8GB of the fastest RAM. It's not JUST for games use! Even the top end graphics cards are utilised by 3D programmes etc. Gaming is just one facet of PC use, and even if it were to disappear tmrw, the PC upgrading culture would still carry on strong regardless.
