Ok I'm going to attend this one. Photography meet anyone? March 7th?

hmmm sounds like a good plan. Say meet at waterloo, go along Southbank, food, then onto Chinatown?

Where is Chinatown in London anyway? Depending on where we end up after first location things might get scuppered by the Tube disruptions?

Any yes your reply did sound entirely gay :D

Isn't Chinatown in or near Soho?

Early weather indicates it could be cloudy on Sunday so hopefully it would be dark moody skies for some B & W rather than blank white clouds for dull skies. :(

Right one week to go before this happens!

Looked through the post and come up with this.....

MEETING SPOT

WATERLOO STATION (train or underground?)- 12 - 12.30pm (with allowances for for possibly a couple of late comers transferring from Kings Cross)

SUGGESTED PLACES TO GO AFTER MEETING.

Campden
Chinatown
Southbank / Thames

Would like some input from Oxygen and SteveOBhave / any other londoners on possible good photo spots. We have to remember we'll only really be able to go one or two places to take photos so that we dont spend half the day walking / bus / tube to other places.

Okay, first thing first, Oxygen = Nathan. Right, so do people have any idea what you want to shoot in London? Is it urban decay, street portraits, iconic landmarks, east end markets or west end hustle and bustle?

A 12 meeting gives us 6hrs till sunset at this time of year and we might as well be on the thames for that, perhaps across Waterloo Bridge looking back at the Houses of Parliment. We can then either get a sunset over the thames or get on the bridge and use some long shutter speeds for the classic Big Ben with light trails image.

...so 6 hours to kill. Just down the road from Waterloo is a street, all undercover, that has 20 - 40 meters of grafitti on the walls where we could shoot some OCF stuff if there are any takers. There is also the Southbank which on a sunny day will have 15-20 skaters and BMX kids poping tricks under the NFT where it's also covered in graffiti, so some street portraiture opportunities can be had. They mostly ignore any photographers so no issue at all. Say an hour for that bit if we go at a casual pace.

Mention of Chinatown i see and it looks great at the moment for the new years celebrations. I'll walk past in the week to see if the lanterns are going to still be hanging up in the streets as it adds loads of atmosphere. We could go to that after dark for some shallow DOF shots and street portraiture. I always think it looks better by night but then i don't know how long people are around for on the day?

Guess that leaves 5 hrs of daylight for us to come up with some suggested sights and areas. Throw me some ideas lets see what you all want from the day. I'd hate to railroad you into something i like because i can do it any weekend....

In terms of how long after dark folk are hanging about, I can say I'm staying till Tuesday! So if there are any evening things I can tag along for a while afterward.

Some extra suggestions would be good cos I'll be doing a bit of an exploration on the Monday as well so anything that isn't covered for the Sunday I could probably do on the Monday instead. :)

Any known spots where skaters regularly hand out?

I wouldn't mind getting an ofc flash out and getting some shots of them.

Like Oxygen's mentioned, there is on the South Bank. I don't know any other. But it is all under a building, so quite dark. last time I tried shooting there with no flash/tripod, I got everything blurry.

I'd say it's best to do portraits, and when in the middle of walking to areas, grab the landscapes etc. Could always try do a street portrait session in different areas, set up a backdrop somewhere.

I'm happy to shoot anything along the way.
Currently checking if I can get the ZD 50-200mm SWD lens out for the weekend, would love to try that out, would be handy for some candid shoot :D

I'm after some black and white street photography like this dude's stuff - http://www.flickr.com/photos/fabuchan/

I've loved this kind of photography for a LONG time, but never really done any myself.

I'm tempted to leave my bag at home and just come with the 24-70L to keep lightweight. But I really want to bring the 135L as well :(

I need a smaller bag.

i'm going to be bringing my back pack with my camera, zoom, 50 and 28-105 along with filters. Not sure about the flash though so if you want i could pop one of your lenses in as well and possibly forget to give you it back :p

Some good work in there, but as he's using a Ricoh GR 2 point and shoot he can fly under the radar mosty for the tube shots. I'll be taking my 24-70L also and hopefully a 5D II if it arrives in time :)

Taking a small backpack gives you freedom to pack some comforts for a day out, another lens, flash, filters, batteries, CF cards and lenspen. Also handy for a bottle of water, gloves and extra clothes if you feel to cold in the evening. I'll possibly be bringing a micro tripod to use for some light trail work on Waterloo Bridge.

If you want to see some of the best night time shots of London then look at this ..... kayodeok's simply amazing. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kayodeok/

where about? We'll come and take photos! :D

It's out at the Olympic village - it was more so I could have a look around rather than any real love of running

Good luck with that Steve, lots of work colleagues have signed up for the London and Blenheim triathlon ... "madmen" i should say :p

Cheers mate - this is my first and highly likely my last run :D
