Laptop was just stolen at the airport

Did you inform airport security? Was there any CCTV where you were loading the taxi?

Ya, Police said to give it 3 days as airport security were closed??? then report it as stolen.

Is it a store bought laptop with the licence key still on the base?

Yes, plain vanilla dell, came with home vista on it, I've probably got the full receipt on it in my email. What difference does it make, just curious?

I was helping load my stuff into the back of a taxi, we couldn't fit the stuff, turned back round 3 minutes later and it was gone.

3 mins is a long time to leave a lappy unattended dude. Especially in a busy place.

Never the less, unlucky bro :(.

Surely the moral of the story is full disk encryption. Not that anyone can be arsed.

All my naughty stuff is encrypted on a USB stick, full disk encryption has proven to be a bit annoying when things go south. That said I don't have much I want to keep secret so it's not an issue.

For a 2GB file the length of the video was cut rather short ¬_¬

HURRRRRRRRRRRRR.

you left your laptop unattended? at a airport of all places. you are a very silly individual.

Not really. I left my MacBook Pro unattended in an airport for 5-10 mins fine while I went to the loo and bar. Laptop was fully open on the table and just on the screensaver (but would have needed a password to resume), with my hand luggage bag next to the table. Came back 10 minutes later and it was exactly where I left it.

Granted this was the Concorde Lounge at Heathrow T5, but it's still an airport.

That'll be why then. I've left my laptop in an airport lounge for an hour or more before (although not on show).

Won't be much of use on my laptop when I take it on holiday. I reformatted it a month or so ago after the OS ate itself. Might be a forum password or two, I suppose.

In theory would it be possible to find out where the computer is if the thief connects to the internet somewhere and you have the windows vista cd key?
Yep, you could locate it to within a few meters at best.

Nothing to do with the CD key though. Just some software installed beforehand.
