Given how much trouble you had driving a slow Rover on a motorway is a 200bhp bmw going to end in anything but tears? :p

Yeh theres a very simple solution to that. Don't drive after being up for 26hours :p

If its a decent one without major bills due then no, but then what are the chances of that on a car of that age...

Fair enough, if I decide to have it I'll do the standard BMW rule.

Keep a grand in the bank for the 'when it breaks' fund :p

New steering wheel (fitted that yesterday to test it works, sending it off for re-trim next week), front bumper respray, Inspection II and some preventative maintenence in the form of replacement CCV + pipework and VANOS seals replacement.

Good job I love it :p

Have a look at: http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/nikasil.htm

My old e36 was an M so I have no first hand experience/knowledge of the Nikasil issues. Not to worry though, BMW made sure we had other things to worry about (double vanos).

I think that it is pretty well accepted that if a Nikasil engine has made it THIS far in its life then it is probably fine, but it is worth keeping an eye out for a dodgy idle.

£3,000 may seem a little rich for a N Reg BMW, but Cabs do retain their values rather well. What you really have to do is ask yourself if you really want a 328i cabriolet though, and for some reason I don't think that you are completely convinced, especially when it comes down to wanting a Manual box (which isn't really want you'd want in a cabbie)?

Why would you not want a manual just because its a vert?

And like I said it's just a contender for the next possible car. Also going to be trying Teg Type R's etc etc

Cabriolet - "bangin choons"... does not compute.

Forget trying to put a decent stereo in a cab, it'll sound ****e

I lost a 328i to nakasil at 120k. I actually wrote it off, but it was well on it's way to the grave yard (diagnosed nakasil issue by a rather good local specialist)

Just because it is a convertible? Having the roof chopped off usually changes the dynamics of a car completely, and a E36 is no exception. Removing the roof reeks havoc on the structural rigidity of the Chassis, that can be felt when you're giving it the beans, and you mentioning that it being an automatic is some sort of a "disadvantage" suggests to me that you do want to give it the beans (seeing as how a good automatic gearbox is superior in almost every other sense). Wanting a manual box (and short listing a Type R) suggests to me that you are after a "driver's car", in which case I would stay well away from a E36 cabriolet, or for that matter is a drop-top can that was not designed to be a cabriolet in the first place.
