Just wondering if there is a reasonable benefit going with an i7 860 over an i5 750?

I want to run it standard, IE no disableing anything in bios.

I am thinking of a Media/all round pc but no overclocking, letting the system run the cpu under or over as required to keep noise and temps down, but I do want a Quad core which runs nice and low when idle but gives reasonable CPU power when demands are there.

i its just fpr a media pc then theres not much point going i5... what else do you use it for? thought about amd?

It will be used for games, music, photo's just about every other thing a PC does.

So not just media, currently I run an E5200 at 3.5Ghz in one PC and an E6300 at 4Ghz in another, but at times find stalling, latency and overall speed of multiple tasks and encoding to be a nuisance.

Watching the likes of an MP4 of Kranked 7 with subtle pauses noticeable at times is one pain. I want a powerfull quite PC capable of smooth HD video replay while tasks run in teh background and it's connected to a home network where files may be getting shared n such.

I already have a SilverStone Lascala LC13S case, with a 450w Corsair Modular PSU, a Samsung 640 GbHD and a WD Green 1.5Tb HD with an M-Audio Soundcard to re-use with this new build.

So currently thinking i5 750

The Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L is 30.5cm by 19cm, the 19cm part sounds perfect for my case, just thinking 30.5 is borderline? I think my Asrock is around that length?

Can't decide between 8Gb or 4Gb of memory?

Just a warning...the GA-P55-US3L only has three mini-jacks, not six like most other boards.

Also, would you be interested in 2x USB3.0, 2x SATA 6.0Gb/s, 3x IEEE 1394a as extra, as well as being actually able to use xfire/SLI (not like 4 lanes for the 2nd PCI-E 16X crap on most of the "so-called xfire/sli' boards)?

If you do, you should have a look at this:

However if you are don't mind not having the extra features and just want a budget board that still got plenty of slots, I would have to agree with easyrider's recommendation.

If you are only using it for media playaback and gaming, 4GB is enough. However if you are also using it as a digital audio workstation, you would probably benefit from the extra 4GB of memory when dealing with large recordings.
