Thinking of going back to air after a couple of years under water, but found this on the back of my CPU socket yesterday:

Am I going to be able to mount a Megahalem or similar backplate cooler, and if not how do I get rid of it?

Yeah, it seems to be attached to the retention bracket. Coolers without a backplate are probably not an option because they all seem to be a bit carp.

Begs the question does anyone have a Megahalems on this board (Asus P6T vanilla) ? I can't imagine Asus would restrict you to backplate-less coolers tbh.

You can remove the retention bracket, but it means you need to be very careful when mounting and dismounting the cooler (something which I found out to my cost the other day).

Im using a TRUE on the asus p6t deluxe v2, didnt have to remove this asus backplate, the thermalright bracket still fits fine.

Ah, the P6T Deluxe V2 has this same stack cool backplate?

EDIT: Thanks for the photo, very helpful :)

No probs reflux, one thing to watch though with the megahelims, is ram slot clearance. Its quite a thick cooler, and may cause the fan to overhang the ram slots on the board. No such problems with the TRUE, even if i do decide to upgrade to 12gb. Im using ocz reaper with very tall heatpipes.

Youll notice that my ram was in the wrong slots at this stage (first pic), this though helped to confirm that 12gb would fit without issue, though im limited to a 25mm diameter fan on the cooler.

After reading a wadge of decent reviews for the Venomous-X I think I'm gonna go for that instead. Should use a similar mounting system to your TRUE and it's thinner which means RAM is less likely to be a problem.

Cheers for your help mate :)

Glad to help, the venomous x is basically the latest version of the TRUE, excellent coolers, im only ditching mine to go custom water, which i believe youve been running recently.
