i'm 'normally' ok with car issues but this has me baffled.

2.3l cylinder Ford Galaxy 1997 (R reg).

what i tried to do?:
give it new plugs and leads. it has coil packs so i counldn't change these but 4 plugs + 2 leads i could. so i did. bad move.

Reason being:
It wouldn't start after the new plugs (gapped per size instructions on packet) and put the 2 new leads on.

Remedy Tried:
put old plugs and leads back on.

Symptom:
It still wouldn't start. It was mega low on fuel so a tenner was put in by aid of jerry can. It will 'try' to catch every now and again but generally it's ******. :( i've read about power relays being issues and i would normally check the plugs for a spark but you have to remove a cover every time and replace it to even get it to try and catch so i'm guessing it earths somehow.

What would you do? Apart from burn it. :( Crap weekend is now a mega crap one. :(

dont try and bump start it your wasting your time...if it turns over and wont catch , it wont catch when you bump start it..

it the pasanger footwell wet??? under the pasanger seat it the imobiliser. also what is the light doing when you try to start it.???? flashing, steady?, also the relay that fails stops it from turning over (this is a commonish fault)

so its fuel or spark?? do you have spark do you have fuel?

bullit

edit could you have flooded it??? take the spark plag out and see if there wet??? this will also check for fuel.

If it was fine before he touched the spark plugs. 99.9% of the time the fault will be in that area.
I'd hold off looking further afield until you've gone over everything you did first.
Maybe knocked a plug off somewhere else while removing things, broken a wire somewhere or just simply missed something you did..

In which case bump starting would probably start it fine :), afaik anyhow.

But yeah, check the plugs if they're wet, if they are then probably the spark doesn't get through, if they aren't then there's probably something with the fuel pressure...

It was mega low on fuel so a tenner was put in by aid of jerry can.
Could mean you broke your fuel pump if it ran dry completely, my dad did this three times in two different cars, he has gone through 2 fuel pumps in the Corolla and 1 in the Citroen by stupidly letting it run completely dry of both lpg and petrol.

thanks for all ideas. AA guy unfortunately had to look at it today and i was kinda impressed by the fault and the AA guy.

turns out the wiring had melted inside the coil wiring and it wasn't sparking (which i didn't check as it was dark)so he essentially rewired it all back as far as he could and it works again now.

so a) it wasn't a direct fault of mine bar moving wires which had broken up inside and b) at the AA guy for fixing it so quickly and easily given it wasn't the usual call out issue. to top it off it didn't cost my mum a penny as she had it through the TSB account she has.

so good ending all round i think considering. :):o

How do you manage to work out it wasn't a "direct fault of yours".
You moved some wires, they broke, it didn't start.
I call that 100% your fault. :p :D
Just having a laugh :D Glad you got it sorted anyway.
