Got a laptop at a public authority auction. it was sold with no RAM in it and as such sold as "untested/not working". Only cost me a few quid so not much lost if it doesn't work

I've popped a bit of cheapo RAM in it but still no joy. I get power light and battery charging light, and a fan runs, but nothing else. (infact this is exactly what it did without the RAM in it)

Not getting any bios beeps
can't "del" into bios.
It's a tosh satillite L300D.

Any ideas guys?

Probably the motherboard or the CPU fried.

Have you tried hooking it up to a monitor? Do you get any HDD activity?

starting to sound like its completely dead :/ oh well.. with an adapter youve got yourself a cheap HDD?

Which brings me on to my next question. how do I link the HDD up to my existing pc. never really seen a laptop HDD, looks like I can simply attach a sata cable and a sata power cable, but there is another socket that looks like a 3/4pin fan header type thing.

If it is a SATA drive you can just hook it straight to the motherboard and SATA power.

The 3/4 pin header you are talking about is probably for jumper settings, you dont need to worry about them

or you could buy an external caddy and have a nice little external usb powered hard drive :)

strip what you can use off it and stick the rest spares or repair on a certain auction site :)
