Jag XF Vs BMW F10

Well this might be a bit pointless given the new 5 series is not out and about yet but I still wanted to get some thoughts.

More importantly, I search for XF on the forum and it didn't come back with even a single result! How come a car so popular has never been discussed on here or am I missing something?

So any 'british' bias aside (some may argue its now Indian), which one would you guys go for and why?

Brother in law needs help in choosing and is waiting to test drive the F10...he absolutely loved the XF apart from the front grills.

I would personally wait for the M styling to come out for the F10 though.

Residuals on the F10 will be much better than the XF, and its direct rival seems to be the new E rather than the Jag, so perhaps the XF is an inferior product?

I don't think it's inferior, but Jags have always struck me as more of a car that you know you want to buy regardless, where as BMW and Mercedes trade places for a lot of people out there ...despite being rather different to drive.

I think the Jaguar XF has the best interior of any car I have seen to be honest, and is every bit a direct competitor to the Germans, weather everyone else sees that is another matter though, hopefully they do for Jaguar's sake.

The XF has been discussed on here loads, there are no results because you cant search the forums for only two letters.

The general concencous is that the XF is an absolutely brilliant car.

I really don't think that is true for the XF though, the only thing you might be able to back that up with, is the point about residuals, but time will tell in that department.

I really like the XF, but it is starting to dawn on me that the vents spinning automatically is completely pointless, and in a few years are likely to break costing a lot to fix, or leave you with air blowing into the dash.

I just meant that Jags are no longer the brick's in terms of residuals they were.

The earlier ones do seem to have fallen a lot yea, I wonder weather the new 3.0 diesel will hold it's value any better than the 2.7 or weather this even had a detrimental effect on the earlier cars values.

Errr no you dont unless its a 520d, which is a totally irrelevent comparison as they dont do a crappy 4 pot XF.

If a decent 08 5 Series was only £17k I'd have forced myself to like the styling and gone for one.

The XF suffered early with the 2.7D being replaced by the 3.0D which is a vastly better engine. If you compare a simliar spec'd 530i/d to a XF 3.0/D they are very simliar price wise.

I'd buy the Jag Xf over the current 5 every day of the week, the F10 I'll hold judgement on until I've driven it but from the looks department the Jag still wins in my book.

After a recent weekend loan of an XF (Diesel) my brother in law has just placed an order for an F10 5 Series.

It surprised me as he only had an F10 for a brief drive at a dealer launch event recently.

Not sure which model, again a diesel I'd guess, it will replace his current e60 525d.

Whilst he and my sister both liked the XF, they both prefer the new 5.

That suprises me as well - the dealer launch events were after hours and each dealer was provided with a single F10, which was a static exhibit.

How did he manage to drive one, I thought BMW UK said no to that? They seem to be trying to keep them off the roads prior to the launch.

I don't know the finer details as yet, I am passing on what my Dad told me today in conversation.

I do know my in-Law has driven an F10 though, I'd guess his position as a director of a large P.L.C. with an equally large fleet of BMW's that are due replacement could well have had something to do with it!

I'll ask him when I next see him, but he's in Spain Tomorrow and for the next week, but be assured, i will find out more !

Oh and when he gets it, I'll be taking photo's of it with you in mind Fox! - Christ! how sad am I?
