help a pc gamer (xb360 controllers)

Well it has it's place, I certainly still play some PC games but what did it for me was the arms race that was having to constantly upgrade my GPU every year then fiddle about with settings for half an hour to get something to run exactly how I want it to (I'm looking at you GTAIV!) although I have to keep up to some extent in order please the missus by having the Sims 3 installed :p. Also the fact that I actually find console gaming far more immersive and relaxing these days yet I cannot quantify why, it may be beacuse if I've spent the whole day working at a desk I just want to detach myself more and the consoles are better for that for that I think.

Edit: That deal you posted in the other thread looked very good by the way! :)

I ahve pre-ordered it!

What is also annoying me with pc gaming atm, every game pretty much having to be run through steam. I love steam and for agmes I would never want tp sell like CSS, TF2 etc etc its awesome, but for modern warfale 2 I cannot sell on as it's tied to my steam account. I bought it to play over xmas as they were no other pc games, now i'm stuck with it. Whereas if I had an xbox I could have bought it for £40 and sold it for £20 a month later.

XIM360.com

The 3rd version has gone to have the board mass produced for it a few weeks ago.

xbox360 with a keyboard and mouse that actualy works, yeah ill have some of that..

I was waiting for someone to mention that. You do realize it's pretty much cheating if you use it online? If you stay offline when using it that's fine enough with me, but gaining a sizeable advantage (particularly in FPS') over other players online via the use of your wallet just isn't on tbh.

I sort of see your point but whats the difference between this and getting a steering wheel or figthing stick for driving/fighting?

It can be argued that they give people a massive advantage too.

1. They are officially supported by Microsoft
2. They don't unbalance the playing field in the way a mouse and keyboard would. In my eyes it's no different to using hacks. If you want to use a M+K then go play on PC.

The difference lies in the fact that they don't give a huge advantage over pad players. A huge proportion of the best times set in Forza 2 (don't own 3 yet so can't comment) are pad players for example and speaking from a personal perspective i'm still better at SF4 with a pad than i am with a joystick. I will give you the fact that a joystick is marginally better than a pad for beat em ups but they aren't that much better when compared to a mouse and keyboard over a pad in shooters. A mouse and keyboard is by far a more accurate control method for shooters than a pad whereas a joystick is only slightly better than a pad in beat em ups and arguably just as good as a wheel in driving games.

Then there's the whole 'they're officially supported peripherals' arguments, but i won't go into that as the most important part has been outlined above.

If someone uses one of those mouse + kb adapters online on a console in my eyes they're just as bad as the morons using OGC on the PC.

/awaits 'zomg but anyone can buy an adapter too!' argument from the minority

/also awaits a ban for constantly taking threads off topic, sorry!

Leave everything at default and just play. It's hard as hell at first but speaking as an ex pc-only gamer, you do adapt eventually. I'd say i was pretty much used to it by the time i'd played through a single shooter (Uncharted).

This.

If you stick with default for most games, you wont come unstuck when you want to play one that doesn't let you change. If you grit out the hard bit of learning to play, you'll get used to it in no time. :)

i see this but why not have the option... as an xbox360 owner i dont see the reason not to!

*sigh* for the reasons already stated

1. Level playing field, offering multiple control options would split the user base up and decrease overall popularity.

2. See 1.

If you really want to use a mouse and keyboard then why not just play on PC? You don't see people complaining you can't use the wii remote on 360, no because (it's crap) and if you want to do that, you game on the wii.

why cant us pc gamers use a KB/M combo on monden day consoles... surely MS should have support for this!

/facepalm

Because maybe some console gamers don't want to have to setup a mouse and keyboard and sit at a desk. They could be quite happy to be slouched on the sofa with a pad.

If you start allowing a mixture of controller players and MK players your asking for trouble.

Also, hasn't this been covered a bazzilion times...?

Stick with the pad, it'll see you right in no time at all.
Admittedly coming from a purely FPS's pc background I was in the same boat, go round a mates with six of us playing Halo 2 only to be battered to death time after time.
a lot of cursing and playing later, I get better and start getting my own back!
Then I bought myself a 360 and now I feel more at home with a 360 pad in my hand than with mouse and keys :)

I can't and I never will get used to an FPS game using a gamepad - my mouse+keyboard feel like precision instruments, a gamepad makes me feel like a dumb troll pointing in a general direction with a large stick.

For other games on my PC, I do use an Xbox 360 controller. It allows me the "curled up on the sofa" experience, and plugging in the controller in G4W games perfectly replicates the Xbox experience. Who needs overpriced console games? :)

Because if everyone had a choice of gamepad or KB/M, we PC gamers would completely own the console guys! :p Many have pretty poor aim, and would be lost without their auto-aim.

Practice, practice, practice. I was a hardcore PC gamer up until a few months ago when I decided to go the Xbox 360 route.

While I still find a keyboard and mouse far superior I'm now very comfortable with a pad. All it takes is practice. :)

Adding to this i just got the bannco scorch xbox controler...

After trying the "out of the box" firmware and the 1.5 ver online i found it to be useless...

However last night expert firmware was release from the guys for the likes of BFBC2 and its 90% there.. yes you do have to fiddle with the settings and have the right mouse mat?! but its all good..

Its never going to be a pc mouse and keyboard setup but this will do nicely till the new xim comes out :)

Ocuk should be selling this one..
