I am struggeling to make a build, what is the best performance for a rig around the £500 mark

Now i don't need an operating system, monitor keyboard or mouse, i will be playing on 1900x1000 on a 24" lots of new games like mass effect 2 for example and dragon age of origins, i would like to play these on max with that res, so which build should i go for? Was planning on i3 but then thinking AMD cos i can go crossfire at a later date with 5770s or evne upgrage to a 5850 then get crossfire 5850's.

The case is a storm scout by coolermaster by the way.

Could someone put together a rig that is best bang for buck as close to £500 as possible please!! I would be very gratefull..

Yes mate. Sorry thought i made it clear in my first post! DOH!, yes i've already got the case, it's new though so no old components to work with..

A little over budget, you can do 8x/8x Crossfire if you add another 5770 later and with a good cooler you can try to unlock the 4th core on the CPU, the 600w should cope with both of those.

This is what I would look at getting:

Phenom II X4 955BE ~ £130

Asus M4A79XTD Evo ~ £89

4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 ~ £85

Samsung F3 500GB ~ £40

SATA DVD rewriter ~ £15

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CD-099-SA&groupid=701&catid=10&subcat=

Corsair VX550W ~ £67

This has a pair of PCI-E power connectors so you can run a pair of HD5770 1GB cards.

The total comes to around £539 excluding postage.

If you want to save some money go for an X3 720 for around £100:

are 550/600w PSUs going to be enough to power crossfire 5770's?

You think that AMD tri core is a better option?

Yes cat i know, i've seen you post that around and had a good read, do you think it is worth going AMD then getting crossfire 5770s when its time to upgrade, or just going i3 and going 5850 and selling the 5770, also i would have the option to go i7 860.

Which do you think is the better route to take?

The fact is that adding another HD5770 1GB in the future would mean you get better performance than an HD5850 1GB anyway:

In terms of speed in the games both processors are around the same it seems:

The AMD option simply has a better motherboard for a similar price. In terms of functionality and build it is more in line with the higher end P55 motherboards which have enhanced VRMs,VRM cooling, all solid capacitors and symmetrical Crossfire ability(the higher P55 motherboards do add SLI too).

If you want a cheap AMD motherboard on the same level as the Intel one you should look at the MSI 770-C45 for under £50.

My viewpoint is that if you want an HD5850 and and Intel CPU you should save up more money and get a Core i5 750 and an HD5850 1GB in the first place. This will cost you another £150 or so AFAIK.

You see the problem is in 2 months money will be no factor but i need a PC ASAP cos i just got a new job and need one, so i would like one where i can do my work on etc but also play games BUT with the option of upgrading after the 2 months is over, ya get me?

Thinking the AMD build now after looking at the performance of the 5770x2

I get your point. However I tend to think that if I cannot get at least 12 months to 18 months out of a computer part I have wasted my money. AMD also has the Phenom II X6 and some newer quad cores being launched this year too.

Ye i am planning to get a LONG time out of this PC, it's just i can get most of it now but the rest in 2 months.

I think i'll go with the AMD build that bling put together unless you can think of something better cat? ^^

My build will give you good performance off the bat, and you can increase it with another 5770, bigger HDD and a CPU cooler to unlock and OC later if you wish.
