Yea, kind of.

The drones/warriors are genderless really, but one will undergo a 'change' to become a Queen when there isn't one present within the hive.

She then controls the whole hive via pheromones or some kind of telepathy, I don't think it has been clearly established which.
 
Finally got it running in DX10, only to find the performance to be shockingly worse than DX9. A good 25-30 fps difference in most places, making it unplayable.

will stick to good old DX9 for now :)
 
I can't believe I still havn't recieved this game from play.com yet... considering I preordered weeks ago, and it was shipped on the 18th. I really think someone must have pinched it. Is anyone else still waiting?

Im afraid i have, was really looking forward to this. I the trailers it looked so cool. In practice it bores the hell out of me! 5-10 mins of it is just marines all grouped together as one alien tries desperately to get a kill. After first 5-10 mins and theres more aliens and it gets a bit more interesting its almost always over in a minute or 2

Well TBH i havent tried it myself as i dont have a 360 pad but lots of people have reported it

Its terrible because its far to linear, AI is laughable, the animations are bad, it constantly tells you were to go and what to do even when its totally obvious. Difficulty options just increase or decrease enemies health!
 
Opinions on the multiplayer? I have to say I quite enjoy it for the odd bash! Infestation and SDM is gonna take a while to get old :P
 
Damien of the ten of my friends and me that ordered it from play we have all got our copys now last one to get it was three days ago so if it doesn't come monday i would get on to them and complain.

What's so bad about the AI? I played it for an hour the other day before doing a RAID transfer and it seemed more than good enough?

So far in that hour I've had more fun from this game than Crysis for example. Around 8 hours of game play from one of my favourite comic/game/movie franchises all for the sum of £17.99.

I think this game has been tarnished with the 'it's cool to hate' bug IMO.

I can confirm however that using a 360 pad does give auto-aim. But that don't surprise me as the Aliens are quick and hard to aim at using a pad when they are constantly running up walls etc!

What a stupid comparison, honest to god this forum never ceases to amaze me.

How the hell would sticking hamsters in this game be fair comparison? Do you have an irrational fear of hamsters? The 2 alien characters obviously play a huge part in this game, as they are a major part of the atmosphere.

What do you mean by 'its a cluster'??

Well im playing on hard and im constantly watching aliens run around in circles before me as I shoot them. If you stand in a room with a door or other kind of tight entry point the aliens have trouble getting in and often get stuck trying.
When playing as a pred or alien you can easily drop run right upto marines who apparently dont pay attention to their motion trackers and perform the trophy kill. Other marines dont seem to care or notice their dead team mates on the floor.


Another point is that the game is totally scripted from start to finish. So much that you if dont kill all aliens in certain areas you have to go back and find them (no doubt stuck going round in circles on the roof :p) before tequila will open doors for you even though shes tell you to 'hurry marine' for the 50th time.....:confused:

As for the 'cool to hate', i was really looking forward to this game. Ignored a lot of the negative comments at the start but now ive played it i really wish i hadnt bought it. GameInformer may have given the game 5.75 for some silly reasons but im sorry to say that even though the reason they stated i dont agree with I do agree with their overall score :(

Bought the game Friday after work, had it finished by Sat evening, all 3 characters, has to be one of the shortest games ive played in ages !

Still enjoyed the Marine and Predator sides.
 
playing on hard for an hr or 2 at a time and i'm still on the marine campaign, exploring all the nooks and cranies looking for the audio diaries and trying to keep all my men (and women) alive. Glad to say i'm really enjoying it and anyone who has completed it in 5hrs is just deliberately trying to complete it too fast - take ur time and enjoy it.

Also, the alien AI seems to be getting progressively better as the game goes on.
 
I really can't be bothered with the matchmaking multiplayer in this. Tried a few times now and it's always extremely painful. Maybe before 2011 we'll see dedi server support...
