***Offical RR10 sign up thread late April/early May***

Oh and btw Si due to you organising it your car should be abused like a ginger step child, I'm already calling dibs for a passenger ride :p

EDIT:

Oh and...

No. I asked originally for interest last year, it was decided that it wasn't worth organising one for the end of the year so I left it at that. Confused then stepped up with a competitor place to go to, it was decided that we'd go there and he'd organise it, he has then been absent for the past month or so. I refuse to organise it due to not having a car and also knowing how much of a slagging match organising these things are, plus the last one I was in charge of nearly went boobs up.

Yeah I think he is busy doing the teddy travels blog. :o

It is a thankless task to a point and can be a PITA hence why I am giving it a week for interest before I close the thread.

However unless someone steps up and takes charge nothing will get done, and there will be no RR10. It was not my intention to upset anyone or to step on toes I was just getting irritated at the circles we were going in in the other thread. :)

PS will not be a universally popular choice but at least is is central and will be easier to plan as there is already a working formula for the day. I dont really have the time or patience to reinvent the wheel especially as I have MM8 to plan in early April as well as a full time job and 2x 4000 word coursework and 2 exams.

I don't plan on organising this again unless people want me to, so next time we need better planning and some form of consensus if we are going to move location.

Go for it.

10 runners so far, need around 18-20? to account for dropout etc

Oh I know, it's a horrible task, if it goes badly, it's your fault...I found that one out and I only actually collected money and told people when to run, I didn't book it. :p

I know nothing will get done if nobody does it and it's good that someone is, don't get me wrong. :)

PS is better located, which in a way is a shame really due to what can be had elsewhere, but there we go.

There are but then there are no decent country side pubs or driving roads either unless you take an hours drive out the city to find them.

I'm very tempted to come but it's gonna cost £80 in fuel + dinner and snacks etc and i'm skint this month :p

Will see what I can do :)

Ohh and I can't be arsed with a hoon. Am just happy to attend the RR and have chat etc :)

You say it isnt a hoon but its not like people wait up to make sure everyone is following, seems to be every man for him self.

1.68 bar will be fine on the later evo's
headgaskets and clutches are the weak points

They aren't particularly weak as such, just the limiting factor in tuning the engine.

Pistons are good for around 550bhp and the crank is solid and used in a lot of rally/track/drag applications with little issue.

When the power is around 400bhp you should start looking at rods. There is/was speculation that the early 7 rods were supposedly a bit weaker than the later 8MR rods, theres a lot of debate on the MLR about it and its all rather inconclusive.

It's a safety issue, and if it was your car and you were staring down the nose of a £2500-£4000 potential engine rebuild/transplant, i'd think you'd err on the side of caution.

Of course if Powerstation are willing to provide a guarantee that it won't blow up, or the attendees are willing to have a whip round to cover the cost of a rebuild then i'll be more than happy to entertain it :p

Are the rods really such weak points on the engines? Is it just a case of replace the rods and it can take it or what?

The cheap way to do it is to get drop in forged rods and machine the stock pistons to accept floating pins. Then you are theoretically safe until 550bhp+. This can be done in situ and as such is the cheap option.

Obviously the more expensive route is the forged shortblock option, perhaps retaining a stock crank. However, it's engine out and the cylinders have to be bored and honed adding to the cost.
