Stupid question and I know eyes will roll.

Just trying to think ahead here at the moment. Chances are i Might not watercool my GPu which means the colour theme I'd like to work on would be black and white. With a 5970 having a Glaring Red theme at the side, I was just wondering if I could actually paint the Red Section to make it white.

Has anyone done this before? Reckon its viable?

u could have course paint the cooler as it is just a plastic cover on top of a heatsink. However, this will invalidate ur warranty and is most likely irreversible.

^^^
Could be done if your willing to take that card to pieces just to change the colour.
It's not worth it unless your confident you can do a proper job because you could end up with something that looks tacky that no one else would ever want to buy it off you.

Yeah I saw on another forum some guy painted both of the red bits on his 5870s blue. Looked really cool. No idea what the link was though :(

Prolly better to use vinyl overlays or something - then if you need to RMA you can atleast remove it and less chance of something going wrong than with painting.

If you intend on watercooling, why not just bin off the cooler and use waterblocks?

I know you said you might not do the GPU, but why?

you could paint the whole card if you wanted to.

lol reminds me of the film Tron.

@OP - I thought there was a website (probably loads do it now) where they do fine case art work. Maybe they would consider doing your video card. I mean if you've already spent top dollar on that beast then I expect the costs for a pro artist wouldn't be that bad.

Hello Para!

Thinking it might cost too much.. but after discussions with my colleague, its probably best to watercool the card if my system is watercooled.

Anyone know where I could get a 5970 waterblocked card? I know powercolour has one but I really dont know where I can get one. Will try calling OCUK to see if we can get one in.

Retracting on painting. you guys are right. I'm not a good painter and if I muck up, it will be regarded as one of the stupidest fails of all time. hehehe
