Napoloeon Total War

This one thing will make me decide whether or not to buy the game;

I am quite interested in the whole Napoleonic War era, read the actual history and a lot of the general fiction literature based around it.

One thing which stands out is the fact that the British won through discipline (and bravery?) they were normally out numbered massively but thanks to their tactics, fighting ina line rather than in a block like trhe French, and their discipline they won the war.

So from experience of the game so far is this reflected? Do the British fight differently and have some sort of improved morale or whatever which shows the redcoats as fighting much better than any other regular infantry? Or is it a normal Total War jobbie of man with most men wins and tactics (within reason) be damned?

I remeber reading somewhere that the prussians have +1 morale and the british have +1 to firing rate. This could be from darthmod but its somewhere in the games i play. I think the french get +1 to surrender!

Hows the AI? Better than ETW?

I got too anoyed with things like the fort pathfinding but i really enjoy all the TW games.

The fort pathfinding is better but not perfect. Overall the AI is a lot better. Tactically it can make 4 units fight against 10 of mine very well. Its given me a few headaches along my campaigns.

What are the scenarios like? Steam won't give me an ETA on my download, the tease!

23% at 5.8MB/s though, so I should be finding out very shortly. Shafted myself £10 for the special units, too - Total War is one area I just can't make myself save money.

I was England and bankrupt for a while and it triggered a revolution. I decided to side with the rebels and march on london ending the monarchy. Also when you take some citites you get the option to liberate certain ones and establish a new state. I liberated the catalans after taking Barcelona which was spiffing.

As for nations you can choose to play from campaigns of the coalition which means you can be Britain, Austria, Russia or Prussia or do the French campaign.

Anyone else think this is much harder then Empire was? Playing the first Napoleon campaign and I'm finding it a nightmare to make any progress.

Took me 1 restart to figure out what to do. Its different and you have to conserve your troops and fight conservatively but with some aggression i.e. mellee charges are not good

Basically I just pound them down with artillery so they're morale is low and then attack, seems to work so far

I find it much harder then Empire. In the Napolean campaign's you need to act a lot quicker and move your troops around faster. The battle AI has improved a lot but they still run in to melee too often for me.
Cannons have improved in accuracy or is that just me?

The cannons are more accurate and a lot of fun when they hit troops. Though i noticed last night that sometimes you cant hit 3 different platoons with 1 cannonball. Used to be a favourite for bringing a smile to my face :)

Only one question... Are there navel battles in this and if so, are they better than those in Empire (that's kind of 2 questions, granted)? If I can compliment Sharpe with Aubrey then I'm sold.

I dont like the ship battles tbh, all a little slow for me. But from what ive read they are better though still as slow as last time...

ok I have bought this based on 1) this threads recommendations and 2) that sharpes regiment was on tv this weekend

If i find out that you are all wrong, then I shall be advancing, in column on your houses

I'm loving it, my copy finally arrived this morning. I skipped Empire so the campaign map and all the differences it has now (town, city, farm, mine management, tech seperate from production etc etc) compared to MTW2, which I've been playing the last couple of weeks, is daunting.
