Supermarkets that stop doing products you like

If you really like a product why not speak to a local shop and see if its possible for them to start stocking them?

My local Asian shop Prides itself on supplying what his customers want.
He constantly tells anybody who will listen.
"Tell me if there's anything you want & I will stock it"
Another fave phrase of his is
"Cheaper than Tescos innit" :p:p:p

I should have wrote that The only reason they stocked it in the first place was because they got it Dirt cheap. As soon as they have to buy it at the Normal rate they discontinue it.
It has Nothing to do with supplying what there customers need & everything to do with Profit.

I Hate Supermarkets !!!

Problem is there's no good indy's left as the supermarkets swallow up all their trade.

Exactly, people seem to to overlook the smaller shops. Fair enough the supermarkets are bigger and cheaper and you can get everything at once, but they want as big a profit margin as possible, if they cant get the stock at the right price they just dont bother and it has no real effect on them.

For those few things you want go speak to a few local shops, chances are they can pick it up easy enough and stock it for you. They will even tell you how much itle cost before they get it in.

Worst thing about it all is the Public are completely ignorant to there World domination tactics & are actually Pleased to go spend there money there.
In the future people will look back at this time & wonder how they could have been so Ignorant.

Even when Supermarkets sell stuff that is Falsely labeled you don't notice.
E.g
Would be the Chickens that are sold called summit like Country Farm Delight when in reality they are Battery.
People are so Blind to what they put in there bodies as long as it's Cheap.

Yeah, I'd agree with this.
If it's a Supermarket owned branded product, they would have stopped it because it wasn't selling.

But in this case, it was most likely because they bought a huge lot cheap, which enabled them to make a good sale on it, which also is a good bargain for the customer.

Anyone who shops in Morrisons especially will have noticed this kind of practice. In the past year I've seen everything from Muller Yogurts, to Ben & Jerrys icecream, Butter and Cheese.....

Latest one was four tin packs of Princes Tuna for £2. An absolute steal, and they had so many of them. However, as soon as they are gone, that's it.

And although I don't shop there, I went in a Lidl while on holiday in France. They sold such a random selection of products, that they clearly use the same practice of buying a job lot of items and when its gone, its gone.

Let me Clarify.

I HATE SUPERMARKETS !!!
.

:D

Agreed, I hate supermarkets.
Shop at all indies, better quality and it's usually cheaper in the end anyway.

Hate the fact that I work at one but the job market sucks :(
At least I only do security now, don't have to touch sales, just ******.

That's cracking value, I noticed tuna has become very expensive. Where I used to work, a 4-pack was pushing £6

Sainsburys keep swapping things out for their own products. I've lost count of the amount of things they've done this on.

Most recently, I've not been able to find Lazy Chillis, or even their own goats cheese and flamegrilled pepper pizza. In the words of Joe Pesci, they **** you at the supermarket.

possibly the biggest reason they've done this is due to the recession, people who shop at the 4-5 (asda, morrisons, tesco, co-op and sometimes sainsburys) bigger supermarkets want cheap food so instead of filling the shelves with name brands that wont shift they fill it with own brands that will (don't forget that supermarket own brands are made by the name brands, sainsburys sugar is supplied by billingtons iirc, nestle make much of the supermarket own brand cereal and so on (which is why it tastes the same from supermarket chain to supermarket chain)).

special promotions, as mentioned, will be a reason for disappearing product as well as products that are delivered by accident, often they'll be dressed in to sell it and once it's gone it's dressed off.

another problem i've experienced is interfering ****ing managers who pull tickets off when something is out of stock and then fill the gap to make it look like there are no gaps on the shelves, because there are no gaps it wont be manually scanned and re-ordered and if the computerised system has inaccurate sales figures it may lead to the product not being brought back in until the independent stock check (upon which they discover there aren't actually any in stock and so order more). often if the back-stock isn't being worked efficiently it will exacerbate this problem.

Can't even buy single cans of pop at my local Morrisons, only 2l bottles and those tiny cans.

I'm surprised nobody has noticed how they Introduce new products & then Gradually make the location smaller & put there Own Brand version in it's place.

What Morrisons tend to do very often, is put say a 2 for 1 offer on then put a very similarly packaged item on the shelf that isn't part of the offer. Either that or do half price on say something that is 210g and pack the shelf with versions that way say 170g so you don't notice. It's by far to frequent to be casual error.

I was extremely displeased when my butcher stopped doing steak guiness and mushroom pies, they do steak and guiness or steak and mushroom in that kind of branch now.

Takes at least 15 minutes to whack one up with some actual meat content to stick in the oven :D
