don't know allot about home theatre kits as i've never owned 1 but would like 1 to be pluged into a sky box and a pc at the same time. its my understanding that when you purchase a a theatre kit you then need to plug it in to something else via optical lead to get it to work on something else other than the included dvd player or whatever, or can i just plug something into the tv (my tv has an optical out port) to get it working on everything that should come out of the tv? i play pc games on my tv allot. thanks

ok cool so you can get home theatre kits with 2 optical outs? so 1 going into a sky box and 1 going into the pc? ah just seen a few with hdmi repeaters in the amp so that means you can just plug hdmis from 2 sources into the amp then hdmi to the tv and your done? ok at the moment the only home theatre kits i can find with 2 hdmi inputs are sony ones that are end of line. can anyone recommend any models? thanks.

You want two optical inputs not outputs. You are outputting from the Sky box and the PC and then inputting into the home theatre kit to provide you with surround sound etc ...

If you want 5.1 out of a PC (at least anything but DVD's played on a pc) you'll need an amp that takes 3 stereo/6 phono or a soundcard that can upmix to dolby 5.1 or better.

ok thanks so now i need an amp with 3 stereo,/6 phono and 2 hdmi ins or optical ins. any suggestions, thanks? can p6t deluxe onboard audio do 5.1 dolby upmix? i really don't know what i'm talking about lol

I guess it all depends on what you want?

If I were you I'd keep it simple and go for a home cinema kit that has either 2 optical inputs or 2 HDMI inputs. If it has any analogue connections on it then thats a bonus but for your sky box and PC I'd stick with optical or HDMI. It will mean any video that has a dolby/dts soundtrack will be decoded by the amp (i.e. DVD's, a lot of MKV files also have Dolby soundtracks now) and everything else will just be in plain stereo. It also keeps the ammount of cables needed down :) If you really wanted everything to be in 5.1 then you could always look at buying one of the Dolby Digital Live/DTS Connect sound cards, they will encode everything up in DD or DTS on the fly and send it down the optical cable

As for recommendations....I'll leave that for someone else lol I honestly dont know what I'd recommend here

yeah i just want it to output 5.1 from blu ray, dvd and games, stuff that doesnt officially support 5.1 doesn't bother me too much as pretty much all the current stuff supports it.
