I recently purchased the above PSU second hand from the MM. I built a system today running freenas and have noticed that the PSU fan isnt spinning at any point during start-up or while running?

Any ideas, the system is a P4 3ghz, 1GB DDR ram, 2 SATA HDDs and 1 IDE HDD.

Is it still powering the system? If so then the fan is probably just broken, shouldn't cost much to replace.

Yeah, it powers the system fine. I bought it second hand of the MM, I'll check with who i bought it off and see if it was like that when he sold it to me.

Run benchmarking software such as furmark and prime95. This will work the components to their max. If the fan doesn't come on then it's either knackared or just really really cold in your room lol.

i shuold get the fan fixed before u bench, when i start my pc up my psu fan goes to max for a few seconds, its the only time i hear it!!

It could be thats its not got warm enough to trigger the cooling fan.
Couple such PSUs: Seasonic X-650 and X-750.
(and occasional old curiosity)

Good chance for fan having failed because it's sleeve bearing fan in where ball bearing should be used: horizontal position+warm

Then cheap Chinese capacitors and not even much of heatsinks for power components so stressing it without cooling is good way to see how many bangs you can get out of it.

Wouldn't trust that PSU unless you also replaced caps along the fan.

I went to unscrew the fan (While PC still on) and as the last screw came out and the fan lowered a little back into the PSU, it started again on its own. THe fan is not working fine, no idea why it wasnt :\
