Peter Misek, an analyst at Canaccord Adams has released a bit of news claiming that the first production batch of Apple’s highly anticipated iPad may not be hitting shops until April. Peter blames a “manufacturing bottleneck” as the cause of the potential delay.
Recently Peter said the following;
“An unspecified production problem at the iPad’s manufacturer, Hon Hai Precision, will likely limit the launch region to the US and the number of units available to roughly 300,000 in the month of March,
This is far lower than the company’s initial estimate of 1,000,000 units. The delay in production ramp will likely impact Apple’s April unit estimate of 800,000 as well. It is also possible that, given the limited number of units available in March, the launch will be delayed for a month.”
Apple themselves haven’t announced the official release date yet, but on the iPad’s section on Apple’s website it does say “shipping in late March’ for Wi-Fi models and ‘April’ for 3G-enabled devices.”
Not only is the release date not announced, but the UK price hasn’t been confirmed either! There are rumours all over the internet but the guys over at Geeky Gadgets seem to think that prices will start off at £389 for the base 16GB WIFI model. Unfortunately like normal, with the current conversion rates, this is making the iPad more expensive to buy in the UK than in the USA!
What are your opinions on the iPad, will you be getting one when they come out?
