So i go on the PC for some gaming and get this:

We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.
If the time displayed on the XMB is still incorrect, users are able to adjust time settings manually or via the internet. If we have new information, we will update you through the PlayStation.Blog or PlayStation.com.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I cant believe some of you doubted Sony would be able to fix this with a software tweak.

All up and running now :)

Sony didn't fix anything, they just waited 24 hours. If this was a software tweak then offline PS3's would still be broken because they wouldn't have been able to get a fix.

Looks like pretty much exactly what i speculated would happen earlier in the thread did indeed happen which is a relief.

It's a shame it happened, but once the bug kicked in what could Sony actually do? They should have error tested for this and should have fixed it before it occured, but at least now they have a year to release a firmware update to help the software cope with any discrepancies with the hardware clock.

Did they fix it or did it fix itself?

It fixed itself.

They didn't update anything and waited until the date had basically passed. They're going to do a firmware update to stop it from happening again.

Although some media companies out there are proclaiming that Sony did fix the issue - when they clearly did nothing.

This should but major bad press for Sony, but you just know it won't be.

Mine sorted itself out around midnight, I logged on and my date said (IIRC) 4/9/2020... my trophies were there and everything was okay.

Assuming a purchase price of 600 euro and a life of 5 years I will begin a lawsuit to get 0.33 euro back from Sony for not being able to play for a day, and prolly the same hefty amount in damages :)

But are there any reports of corrupt savegames and/or missing trophies?

My PS3 was a day out when I booted it (reading 01/03), updating the time from the internet corrected that.

Bit of a cop-out fix from Sony... I would hope they actually do put a fix in. I don't feeling like celebrating No PSN day every year...

Mine told me it was 29/04/2010  and I lost 2 trophies which I had earned since my previous sync, although I got both back when I loaded up the game they were from :)

So not too bad at all!
