I missed Grim Fandango when it was released, would it be any good to play now?

Yeah it will - think it uses ScummVM iirc - Lucasarts re-released it a while back and Im sure that was pretty easy to setup...

Still worth playing IMHO

ps3ud0

Still a great game. There are some unofficial patches out there, and the official forums are a good place if you have any problems getting it to work on XP. Get the Grim Launcher for running it, helps a fair bit.

Still THE best adventure game made IMHO.

It wont run using ScummVM akaik (It uses the GrimE engine rather than SCUMM) but there's a dedicated installer to make it a hell of a lot easier to get working on Vista and Win7

It's still my all time favorite game. Brilliant story and really funny. :)

Correct... ScummVM will not run this due to LucasArts changing the game engine.... To also say, its an excellent game and well worth installing and playing. As far as point and click goes, this was up there with the best of them. Excellent graphics for the time, that still do well today...

there is something of a comeback in regards to point n click. telltale games (ex lucasarts staff, most notably Dave Grossman and Sam & Max fame Steve Purcell) have released in the past couple of years some excellent point n clicks, so if this interests you, then you might want to check out their newer stuff. Tales of Monkey Island is well worth a play....

My favourite game of all time! I love this game to bits. Its really funny and witty. I couldn't play it without a stratgey guide though (i was 12 at the time), and I still probally couldn't solve the problems even now when I'm older.

Neah sorry it's a great game - one I've not completed though. I've pretty much enjoyed nigh on everyone of Lucasarts games due to there stories and characters. I can't think of a really bad game of the top of my head.

I'm currently replaying it on WinXP, after using a 32-bit installer (the original installer used a 16-bit version of InstallShield, but the game is fine, so an alternative 32-bit installer gets it into Windows then it's stock after that).

Also needed a fix on my Nvidia 8600M GT to switch off direct 3D to get it rendering properly.

I'd forgotten a lot of the game, and really enjoying it. Just started the third leg.

I've been thinking about playing this again recently, shouldn't be hard getting it running under 7 but 3d acceleration may be a bit more of a challenge.

Residual is the equivalent of ScummVM for Grim Fandango, but it's only 50% complete so far.

Someone needs to remake/port this game to PSN and XBL.

I bought it a few years back but only played it half way through with a mate... really awesome, but I imagine it could be a ballache getting it to work properly on Vista x64?

13th best PC game OF ALL TIME, according to the big MC :D

Aye.

I'll just point out that it won Gamespots game of the year in 1998 against Independence War, Starcraft, Thief: The Dark Project, and a little known game called Half-Life.

Not bad really. :p
