is it legal?

if its an emergency fair enough but you cant help think that a lot of people do it just to talk. rather than wait and find a safe place or buy a handsfree kit. its pretty annoying (and dangerous) for other road users don't you think?

i had to pass one lady stopped in a blind dip, others on fast sections of road etc

I think it is common sense, I don't see a problem pulling over to use phone if you do it in a safe place.

Pulling over for whatever reason should be done in a safe place, even if its 'an emergency'. No point causing more danger. Its also illegal to answer the phone unless your engine is switched off (or handsfree fingy).

Pulling over somewhere "safe" is fine but why bother. Can’t it wait until you’re journey has finished. The world won’t end if you can’t have a natter.

some phone calls are more important than a natter  I very rarely chat on the phone

I never answer my phone when driving if the GF is with me while driving she answers it

Unfortunately unless you pull over, stop the engine and get out of the car... you can still be prosecuted if it just so happens that a jobsworth copper sees you.

What I don't understand is how I see so many new cars (most fairly expensive), with hands-free solutions built in yet the driver is chatting on the their mobile whilst holding it up to their ear.

How do you know they have built-in hands free? Is bluetooth not still optional on most cars?

how would you know its an important phone call?

if your waiting on an important phone call dont drive about :p
because I can glance at who it's from and know? I have a hands free kit anyway, but the majority of phone calls I get are offering me work, if I don't answer it will get offered to someone else.

I saw a guy who had pulled up this morning on a national speed limit road just on the curb of a fast tight uphill bend just over the crest. I do wonder if people want to get hit sometimes.
