stopping on roads to answer mobile phone?

Unfortunately unless you pull over, stop the engine and get out of the car... you can still be prosecuted if it just so happens that a jobsworth copper sees you.

Yeah, was just about to post asking if it's illegal just to be behind the wheel on your phone.

I just play ignorant and answer everyone once i've got to where I want to be. Or if i'm in the car with someone I get them to answer it for me :)

I think that would have to be a real jobsworth, and as long as you've turned the ignition off, and got the handbrake on the courts would almost certainly rule you'd complied with the law (whilst the engine is running and you're in the car, I think the law deems you to be in control regardless of if it's stopped, but with the engine off it's different).

Personally I tend to let it ring, find somewhere to pull over safely and turn the engine off and relax for a minute (although it's rare for it to ring whilst i'm driving as only a handful of people have the number:))

There is an office I visit each week which is half way along a very narrow country lane with passing spaces. Last week, parked in one of these passing spots and causing absolute havoc was white van man on his mobile. Never a policeman around when you really want one.

Nope... If you have the engine switched off and the handbrake on then it is not an offence...

It's your fault if you run into the back of someone anyway. You may think it unfair if he's stopped to answer his phone (and perhaps he could get done for something as well) but it could equally be an RTA, roadworks or a horse in the road.

Some spastics do stop in stupid/dangerous places.

Just ignore your phone, and, if you want, find somewhere safe like a lay-by to pull over and call the person back. Personally I think it's probably safer to take the call than stop in a dangerous place.

True, but....
