Got paid today so have ordered 3 anime dvd's. I have gone for Urotsukidoji which I have wanted to watch for ages but never got round to.

Next up is Cyber City Oedo 808 which I have been looking to buy for so long. Watching a trailer online brings back so many memories of my first watch on C4 many moons ago.

Lastly is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) I ordered this purely on how many recs it got on anime planet comparing it to Elfen Lied, which is my second fave anime.

Don't you just hate waiting for the postman? :D A couple are from the US so I may have a bit of a wait.

Well Cyber City was apparently sold to me whilst they actually had no stock of it so that order was cancelled. It was in stock at the time, so was a bit disappointing.

I finally watched Urotsukidoji and it was a very weird series. I knew what to expect with the content but the story started off quite good and decreased with every episode until the last part which was complete rubbish.

I liked the first film, I though the story was interesting and even though the animation is very dated, I thought some of the fighting scenes looked really good. The characters were fairly decent and I would rate it 7/10.

The second film was average and didn't really take the story in a way that I had hoped. 5/10

The third and fourth film were just horrendous and were a complete waste of time. Third film 3/10 Fourth film 1/10.

Just started watching When They Cry tonight, I am 5 episodes in and am loving it. I really like the way they drip feed you the story making it full of suspense at times. There is good humour to it and I like the way it quickly switches between the cute side and the very dark side of the characters.

Gangtz is on my list, anyone see it. I heard its really good and very shocking with gore and very dark.

Gantz is amazing mate. It has great actions scenes, excellent characters and an even better sound track. Definitely in my top 3 anime.

There is a negative point though, and that is the ending. Now I only watch it up to the end of the temple story as in my opinion its better to ignore the last few episodes after you have seen it once.

episode 1 is only £4 on hmv website with free postage so it's even less :D

... although Pt2 is £24 on HMV's site ;) ... and Prime deals with my postage from Amazon anyway :)

I don't have an account on HMV (UK) so don't tend to look on there, (or Zavvi ... but I refuse to deal with them).

DVD Pacific are ok although for ordering from the US TRSI tends to be the preferred source now. Personally I tend to use United Publications in the UK as they will deliver to me at work and I don't have to worry about customs charges, (although they can be a bit more expensive particularly for R2 releases (Amazon can be cheaper for UK releases)).
I've looked at both TRSI and United Publications in the past, but seem to have good selection but for whatever reason i never ordered from them. I will give them a good look this time and see what the shipping is like from TRSI. Ordered loads of disc's from Amazon.com but they did screw up my customs charges and i paid twice, so hoping for better from other suppliers.

Unless you are getting series from Media Blasters then most modern releases on R1 are either in half or full-season sets now from the get go.

Recommendations really depend on what sort of thing you like ....
Kanon (new S.A.V.E. edition boxset is a steal)
Clannad (Pt1 & Pt2 boxsets)
Clannad After Story (Pt1 & Pt2 boxsets)
Eureka 7 (new R2 release at £15 per part for 2 part (2nd out on 22/03) is really cheap).
Spice & Wolf (boxset)
Bamboo Blade (Pt1 & Pt2 boxsets)

edit: If you have the original series of You're Under Arrest then Sentai have released the second (Fast & Furious) and the first half of the third (Full Throttle) series (with the second half of the latter due in May) in half season sets as a reasonable price point.

Give us some pointers and we'll happily tell you how to spend your money :D.

Already have Eureka 7, just need to rewatch and check i have all the disc's before i do :) Have just ordered Wolfs Rain, bargain at £15. Will take a look at both Kanon & Clannad.

I really enjoyed the OAV of Your Under Arrest when it first came out many years ago, and i was only looking at buying that a few days ago, so will more than likely order that at some point :)

In terms of what i like, i'm willing to give anything a go really. Just as long as its not horror i'll keep an open mind really.

Throw in Elfen Lied and Full Metal Panic (NOT Alchemist...although thats not bad either)as recommendations too. Also definately Spice and Wolf, IF you dont mind something a bit slower :)

I have Elfin Lied already (but only watched the first disc so far) Full Metal Panic just seemed to pass me by, even though lots of people were enjoying it, so add that to the shopping list.

So I'll throw in (all region 2)
ghost in the shell (if not purchased already - £20 each + 8 for films),
claymore - single box set not split (£25 iirc)
fate stay night (3 packs for about £10 each but not all out yet)
black lagoon - double pack of 1st and 2nd barrage (will probably come down soon but both can be had together for £30)
Eureka Seven is a must in my opinion especially at 30 quid all in
Could do gundam seed/destiny and wolfs rain for 15 quid a box set (30/30 and 15 per set) via anime legends packaging
Mezzo (£10)
Noein (£15 iirc)
Black Brothers (£10)

Some good suggestions. Have lots of Gundam already, but not Destiny, and seeing as its about to get the legends release thats just been ordered. Also just ordered Claymore. Have GiTS and the movies, again need to make time and watch them all.

Thanks for all the suggestions, got plenty to be going on now. Going to be ordering Skycrawlers and Evangelion 1.11 both on Blu-Ray so am really looking forward to these dropping through the mail box.

why?..... I was going to be ordering gits 1 and 2 from them, especially considering I could get both boxes for the price of GITS 1 from the HMV local store

Had issues with them just re-shrink-wrapping items returned to them as faulty and then selling them again as new.

Unfortunately for them whoever returned it had put a note inside the item saying what was wrong with it (disk authoring error) and they didn't remove that note when they repacked it.

That gave them some explaining to do ...

hmm I think I'll try them (theres a fair bit on there that I like thats cheaper) but I'll be aware of the issue you had and take more interest in the packaging etc before opening :)

re Zavvi so far i've not had any problems with them, re the packaging, iirc if a publisher/distributor gets a return from a retailer that isn't properly marked as defective the distributor can/will reseal it and send it out again.

I've heard of people getting Woolies returns at Tesco for example, or TRSI have had problems with Tokyopop manga being found to have Borders/Watersones stickers in the past.

I would just suggest that if anyone is going to use them that what ever is purchased maybe should not go into a back log to be watched at a future date without being checked ...

aye:)

I always make a point of opening any discs as they arrive and checking the discs are correct anyway (and watching stuff from retailers with less tolerant returns first - some like amazon are great even after 3-4+ months, whilst others tend to be a bit fussy after only a month or two).

Note that with TRSI you have to jump through hoops with them the first time you order (extra security checks) but you shouldn't have to do that again in the future.

One title I forget to suggest is the film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time ... a very nice film which is available very cheaply on R2 DVD (although there was talk of a Blu-ray release in a few months). Well worth a look.

I try to now, and keep an eye out for reports on new releases, but a certain points my back log ballooned massively and I still have some titles there which I haven't even taken out of the shrink wrap (unless they sound like a floater) ... for instance I came across a big pile of ADV UK going out of business £2 disks in the bottom of a cupboard when indexing ... several series worth of singles none of which have been checked

We only get to list three? Arbitrary.

Hajime No Ippo
Prince of Tennis
Naruto/Naruto Shippuden

To hell with this I'm listing four! Rebel!

Full Metal Alchemist
