How do I get an O2 iPhone to work with my Vodafone SIM?

I have bought my brothers iPhone 3G for £100 (got to love family discount) so I have decided to screw around with that for a couple of months till something really good comes along when my Voda contract runs out toward the end of the year. Frankly I am fed up of my HTC Magic so that will be up for sale sharpish or I'll offload it to my missus to replace her Nokia 5800.

I gather I cannot simply just plug my SIM in and play, so what is it I need to do to get my SIM working in the iPhone? And what is the simplest way of porting my contacts across?

I believe you can ring o2 and unlock it for £15.
Easiest way to synch contacts, I found, was to sync my current phone with Outlook and then sync Outlook with iPhone.

I am not paying O2 for anything, I know it can be done with some codes etc, just wondering if anyone knew how.

I didn't know the iPhone can sync with outlook, I'll import my Google contacts into my phone then, cheers.

Was your brothers phone on Vodafone? If not you have to get it unlocked. Not allowed to mention here how you do it, however it is possible but you could ring up the providor to get it unlocked for a small fee.

As per the title, it was on O2 but it's out of contract now, not sure if that matters with the iPhone's.

Brother just let me know that it is already unlocked for all SIM cards as such.

So now how do I configure it for browsing the web etc?
