So I test drove a Clio 182 and really didn't like the experience, I just couldnt see myself being happy for the next 18-24 months. After a couple of days and a couple of wasted journeys to pathetic garages where the salesmen don't know the difference between immaculate and a nail, I have a new car.

Spent a little more than I'd planned but it is something I will happily hang on to as it will easily outlast anything I was going to buy for less money.

2002 "51" plate BMW 330 CI Sport, Manual, 60k miles.

First Impressions... I love it. Seriously. I much prefer driving this than my old Z4. The interior really is a classy affair and everything just feels so much more expensive. The ride is superb, nowhere near as hard as the Z4 but gives so much more confidence when on uneven surfaces, cornering and pushing on. The DSC (first click) does seem to sap more power than the Z4 ever did and it doesn't feel as brutal or quick as the Z4, but refinement wise its on another level.

I loved the Z4 and Im glad I had one but lets just say that if I'd had driven one of these before I would have found the Z4 a little too hardcore :o (yes I know its no Lotus Elise but it wasn't the best place to be when the roof couldn't come down)

And please, no discussions about what I should have spent/done with my money etc.

Cost me £7400 in the end :D

Recently had Goodyear Eagle F1's (front) and Vredestein ultrac sessanta (rear), Brembo discs and Zimmerman pads all around, just had a brake fluid change. 9000 miles until next service, 11 months MOT and 7 Month Tax, Full BMW Sytner service history. Insurance is about £300 a year cheaper too. Interior is superb, everyone I've shown has commented on the interior but I think thats down to the quality of the leather aswell. Couple of small scuffs and a cracked fog lamp but nothing £125 won't put right.

On with the photos....

Great car, looks fantastic. Well done for buying a decent one not a cheap nail.

Your thoughts on the Z4 seem very similar to mine. I love it, its great fun... as a second car. I prefer my 530i as an all round package.

I guess there is nothing left in the house savings pot the Z4 sale created now you've spent almost what you sold the Z4 for on a 330Ci :p

I'm avoiding the money comments as they're a bit pointless now, so I'll just say that's a brilliant looking car and well photographed too.

How many 330ci's do you think there are here now? :)

PS your leather looks a bit creased

Can we have some normal photos at some point, the effects on it make it almost impossible to actually see what the cars condition is like.

Sold my Z4 for £10,600.

I totally disagreed with your thought on the Z4 at the time. I had no idea what you were talking about. After driving this... I do.

Thanks :)

I don't think it looks too bad actually. If anything it is in need of some leather care as it seems a little dry all over. The best of the 6 I went to see anyway.

Ha... My first attempt at HDR. Went abit overboard with it. Theres nothing thats visible without really looking for it.

The front bumper at the lowest point had a little mark on each side, on the back there is a small scuff which can be polished out by hand the bodyshop said. Then a small bit above the numberplate which looks like it been touched up. Bodyshop quoted £100 "tops" for all of it just to show the extent of my fussiness :o

Edit : Just remembered the front indicators aren't original. I have them in the boot in a box, but I have to be honest... I like what he's put on them.

does look nice, can you fit the facelift rear lights? or is that BMW Blasphemy?

Possibly but Im not going to go bother with the effort/cost. Only thing I have done is put some Halfords Extreme Brilliance bulbs in the front. Got to say I was impressed that I could clearly see the difference.

Also ordered a brand new ZHP weighted gearknob from BMW for £39.95 b.a.r.g.a.i.n!

I've been very tempted by something like this as an interim move, can pick up some nice looking examples for 7/8k.

Looks good.

They'd need to match the facelift front lights though. Although they didn't on the M3..
Is that a facelift front bumper?
Either way, looks rather nice :)

It's a shame heated seats are so seldom specced in the UK.
They worth it, even for only three months of the year.

£39.95? Damn mine was £47! You'll love it though. The other thing i'd recommend is getting the steering wheel reconditioned. I'm sending mine off tommorrow and will let you know how it goes - my expectations are basically that it'll be a brand new wheel :)

£7400 is very much top end for a 2001 330Ci. Has it got very low mileage?

It's the new ST220! Everyone had one of those at one point!

Re: the car - looks great. And looks like you got it for a good price - looked after 330's are becoming something of a rarity these days.

O/T I don't know why, but i much prefer the E46/E39 style interiors to the E90/E60 interior. The only interior in a new BMW i like the look of is the 1 series!

It's probably because they flow much better and ar far more restrained. I think they are rather simply styled interiors and it really suits the cars. Whereas the E60 is just a mess of shapes.

Luckily we have a return to form with the F series cars :) E90 isnt too bad though?

You definately can , although there are some serious dogs out there! As soon as I drove one out of curiousity, I had to have it.

Don't think its a facelict bumper? Just presumed it was just the sport bumper? Last owner was very close to updating the rear lights to facelift so it wouldn't suprise me. Had to sell as he'd just started training for a regional managers job, and put over 1k miles on the car in under a week. Had a deposit on a Mondeo ST Diesel to take advanage of the fuel allowance at work a little more. Seemed like a really genuine guy anyway.
