Hi all,

I have a monitor here that began life as a 1920 x 1080 LG 47" and has been cut (yes, physically cut) in half. The resulting monitor has a resolution of 1920 x 540, but for the life of me I cannot find a way to get Windows to provide that resolution to the panel.

It displays 1920 x 1080 just fine, but obviously missing the bottom half of the picture.

So, does anyone know, or have any ideas how I can get Windows to send a 1920 x 540 signal over DVI?

There is no specific monitor driver available for the product I have here.

powerstrip may be able to help you here. you can create your own custom resolutions but i have no idea what settings youd need to enter for that kind of res lol

OK, now tried that and wrote a custom monitor driver for 1920 x 540 but no joy.

So, can anyone else think of anything?

I can't help out with your problem, but I'm curious as to how you managed to physically cut a 47" screen in half?

Hehe, I didn't. It's a custom made TFT from a company that takes standard TFT displays and cuts them to create custom size / ratio monitors.

The display glass is sawn, new column & row drivers attached, custom driver card & scalar board etc fitted and it's rehoused in a custom housing. I'll put some piccies up shortly if I can.

The problem I'm facing is that Windows refuses to provide the option to display 1920 x 540 and I want to know how to overcome this issue!

I'd like to see some pics of that!

you can add custom resolutions in the nvidia drivers control panel.

Thanks Oxy, I've just been messing with that and I will try it on this funky panel tomorrow.

In the meantime here's a (crappy) pic taken from my phone.

This panel now measures 42 1/2" diagonal.

No offence meant but what would you use that for? It looks likeit fulfils a very specific function.

No offence taken.

You would use it for very specific applications where you needed a custom size display.

It's not intended for use as a computer monitor or TV.

Yeeeessss? :p And what applications do you use that require a custom resolution? I'm curious as to what it's used to display :)

I realise it's not intended as a monitor, but what do you use it for? :)

These screens are hugely popular in gaming applications, digital signage, on vehicle displays etc. With a screen like this you could show a full 16:9 video (an advert for example) alongside some data or information (for example flight arrivals).

How about just outside a cinema screen, playing the movie trailer while displaying ticket prices and next show times?

The possible application areas are almost unlimIted.

How much did that cost you?
I want one of these for like a lower display for timelines and graph editors in video and 3d software, would be awesome.. but I can only find some company in Taiwan called Litemax who sells something like this, with whom I had to exchange emails back and forth 7 bloody times, each time asking them for the price to receive replies like a list of questions about it's purpose and my industrial order, or "THeh price is onleyh in USD~~", hell they even asked me for it's price at one point before finally I managedto get it out of them, they said price is around $800, so f#@% that, might aswel get one of them big apple screens for that price and have the extra 500 pixels south that way..
