Some new crysis 2 (cryengine 3) screenshots

Doesn't strike me as looking that much better than the first?

Infact, it has an awful Unreal Engine 3 style look to it.

And GTX 280 SLI or better has been able to play Crysis maxed for ages :D

I wonder if FSAA will come at a reasonable price this time :p

It already has. The performance drop on my 5870 when enabling AA is tiny. At first I thought there must be something wrong, maybe it's not actually doing AA, but according to my screenshots, it most definitely is.

Anyway, I'm a little sceptical about their claims of incredible optimisation. I think somewhere down the line, some of these optimisations will come at the cost of lower quality or less accurate graphics and simulations. I just hope they retain the dynamic, sandbox feel of the original.

Pretty sure the shots are "legit" - theres a big article about it in this months Games TM (or was it Edge... one or the other) and Crytek seem to be making some big noises about DX11 and the PC.
Lets hope some other studios pick up the pace too and stop neglecting the PC platform - would be mad to get to the stage where people only consider upgrading their PC when a new cryengine is released!!! Oh wait....

Can't wait until I can afford a pc that'll run Crysis 1 at 60fps :o

Very true. I missed out on Crysis, because I've had a crappy PC. Only recentely upgraded to i7 860 (oc to 4.0ghz) + 8gb ram + 5850 (oc to 870/1200) and got Crysis and everything maxed out (everything on very high) with vsync on and 1920x1080 I can only get about 35fps  Game looks stunning though

There is slight bloom overloads, but I have seen far worse use of bloom in other games.

Those screenshots actually are incredible. I can't decide whether or not at least some of them are touched up. On one hand, some things look too crisp and good to be true, but on the other hand.. this is Crytek.

Shame this will be a console port or somewhere near the quality of one, seeing as Crytek aren't doing P.C. exclusive releases anymore.

I'm not so sure. Crytek are a massively talented studio, and what people will nodoubt end up confusing with 'console-port' is Crysis 3 at medium settings on the PC looking like the console version, whilst it will still likely have a good few more steps of graphical options to take advantage of that extra grunt.

That was half the problem with Crysis. On all medium settings it still looked good, and played very well. But everyone who spent thousands on their systems or half a grand on a graphics card thought it was their god given right to max out every game in existence, and subsequently threw their toys out of the pram.

The interface in Crysis is already primed for console release. Selecting different suit modes is something easily done, and could be very easily done on a pad too (Full 360 pad support in Crysis, which worked very well). The only thing they needed to really whip into shape was getting it running on console hardware, which they will invariably have had to cut a few corners to do so.

Basically what I'm yammering on about is let's not just cry the same tired 'console port' line just yet. There's a good chance with a good studio it's actually worked in our favour as PC gamers, simply setting the requirements bar lower and letting us surpass it further..

So true. Even today, Crysis at high settings still looks better than the vast majority of games yet runs pretty damn smooth even on modest hardware.
