Hi

I thought all UK bank now were doing that sameday (less than 2hr) payment/transfer thing.

MY wife has an Abbey accoutn, she transferred over a large sum of cash into my Natwest account yesterday, but it still is not showing in my account.

Are Abbey not on the fast payment plan?

abbey user.
Making payments to other banks from abbey are using the fast pay system.

Edit just checked... Its incoming transactions by the looks of it. Could have sworn it was the other way too

AFAIK you have to select whether you want to use BACS or FPS when you make the transaction.

I don't recall seeing this option.
I've never done it myself, but I've had them sent to me by FPS, I guess it depends on the bank because I don't see the option on rbs banking either. Generally though if the payment went by FPS it should take no time at all, it has always appeared in minutes for me.

Edit: Oh well, question answered above ^

Whilst most banks and building societies are now using the fast payments system, it is not on all accounts. Some sort codes will work, others wont.

For example a newish Nationwide Flexaccount (their current account) opened in the last 18months or so can use the system, those with the same account but on an older sort code cant.

Aye, I unfortunately found this out when I jumped ship from the Labour Party Bank (Lloyds TSB) to Abbey/Santander.
It took no time at all to transfer my money across from my existing accounts but takes 3-5 days to transfer anything out. :(

Also, some of the FP enabled banks have limits on transferring out in a certain period.

For example Lloyds and/or halifax might be £500 size a few times a day.

Actually, Abbey do support sending of faster payments although only for a select set of transactions. At the moment standing orders are fully supported provided the recipient is participating, and they're trialling it on bill payments/external one off transfers on a select number of accounts. Receipt of faster payments has been working since November last year, faster payments on all transactions will be in soon, last I heard they will be supported before the end of March!

Give me a shout on trust if you want and I'll give you a shout when everything is implemented for bill payments/external transfers if you like!

In case anyone with abbey/santander is interested in this still, the faster payments facility is going to be phased in for bill payments (external transfers) on all accounts now within the next few weeks :)

Rubbish, I was going to switch bank accounts to Santander, but that's quite a big issue. Any idea when it is planed for, it just says sometime in 2010.

I have a few friends who have moved away from Abbey, mainly because they were crap, but also because of the online banking system.

It's ludicrous though, all internet payments should be instantaneous nowadays IMO. I know that's how they make money etc... but frankly I don't care! :p

Yeh i've been taking a lot of bank transfers atm and Alliance werent part of the fast payment scheme when someone paid into my account, someones money who transferred via an IBAN from Europe arrived quicker than them!

Majority are fast payment though bar a few.

Took me 3 days to get money from my Alliance & Leicester account to my Natwest one earlier this week, quite surprising really.
