Warranty options on next car (bmw Z4m)....

Manufacturer all the way. I looked into it with my Focus ST. The Ford one was actually a lot cheaper that the likes of warranty direct who see it has a turbo and immediately double the premium p.a.

For £997 lump sum my car is covered for 3 years as a rolling to the existing warranty I already had.

You would be most welcome Spuderoony. I spotted in your sig that you have the Z4M wheels, with Falken 452's? I didn't think you could get them in that size (225/40/18?)? I use Falken 452's on my 350z and they are great bang for buck. Lastly, where's the best place to get a stubby from? :D

Surely you would have to turn up to a meet to give passenger rides? :D

You got me there! :D:D

If this goes ahead, then I will in my own car for the official southern meet.

If not, probably end up coming down with a friend (or I could bring the work prius of fail!)

How flexible is the "standard card" part

I notice that lots of M cars have subtle mods. Even if its only changing the kidney grills for black ones etc..

Does this void the entire warranty, or only the warranty for parts that would be effected (eg trying to claim for a gearbox on a remapped car) ?

Dont think i could resist the temptation and keep the car totally 100 % stock.

Does a Z4M have sat nav as standard?

Nope, it's an expensive optional extra (£1500+ iirc). The one I am looking at doesn't have it, but to be honest I need a removable sat nav for work as I use many different pool cars, so doesn't really bother me. I will spend the money saved on a nice audio set up or a set of CSL's.

From my understanding, you cannot take out the warranty and not disclose a remap for example. Cosmetic and reversible changes shouldn't affect it. If you were to play around with an induction kit and not disclose this and had a big engine bill, I am sure they would use it as a "get out of jail" free card.

:)

Thats good that cosmetic stuff doesnt effect it then.

Wonder what they would think to say an induction kit and an exhaust. Would they flat refuse the warranty because it says "standard unmodified cars only" ?

Also depends on mileage - I found that going over 60,000 miles in my M3 inreased the BMW warranty price by 2.5 times.

Personally, I will not be going for a warranty when my current one expires on 15th March.

It is not very flexible at all. The black kidney grilles are allowed though (the previous owner of my M3 checked before he fitted them).

how do you get away with your AC schnitzer exhaust ? just no warranty ? or is the plan to put it back before making a claim :D

I asked BMW about mods. I was particularly interested in fitting the intravee ipod connection kit. They said that basically anything that was associated with it would no longer be covered under warranty, so in that instance despite all it being really is plugging the CD changer lead into something different, I could forget about the Sat Nav, CD player, radio and speakers being covered if something went wrong. then the nice man told me that is it really was just a simple plug/unplug job then should the Sat Nav fail then I should replace the intravee back to the CD changer and then put it in for a warranty claim.

Personally I wouldn't buy one without satnav - putting an aftermarket headunit in a Z4 will look weird (if it's even possible at all as the dash is a funny shape).

I've had a car with a decent sound system and as much as I love my music, I am going to be more entertained with the roof down and listening to the engine on summer days. However, the car is fitted with the 10 speaker audio and IPOD in, which should be sufficient. I don't intend on putting a headunit in :)

BMW have replied, it's good news (if expensive warranty prices are a good thing!) that they can cover the car.

The pricing is based on 0miles-60,000 miles and goes up in price after 60,000miles.

Coverage is as follows (not sure if I am allowed to do this, but here goes):

Is BMW breakdown worthwhile? I am not covered by anything currently as I am using a work vehicle which is covered.

I am tempted to for the full comprehensive with no excess and breakdown included.

Thoughts?

that's a bit higher than I saw on the z4-forums. I thought it was about £850 for a no-excess comprehensive cover. Perhaps I'm wrong in my recolleciton though.

As for the breakdown cover, make sure you can't get a cheaper equivalent from upgrading your bank account or thorugh your insurance company etc., although £80 extra doesn't seem too much.

Interesting that taking the £250 excess option and making one claim a year would work out about the same as the no excess option.

It's £25 a year for me to go on my family AA policy. Worth doing that instead?

If you were in my position with a car that's done 38,000 miles BigT, which option would you go for with your experience of ownership?

Cheers

Well £25 is cheaper and to my mind the AA do a decent policy.

In your position I think I'd go for the comprehensive but with one of the excesses. My reasoning is that either it'll be something catastrophic and shelling out £100 excess won't seem like the end of the world compared to the thousands you saved with component x blowing up, or there will be lots of niggling little things (for example I've had work done on the airbag, creaking rear diff and loose trim) that won't stop you driving it. In those instances paying £100 excess might be half the overall bill and be annoying so you "save" them up and get them done all at the same time and pay the single excess. Having said that, for you paying the couple of hundred quid premium a year, to be able to take the car in as soon as something isn't quite right and getting it sorted there and then, may be worth it.

The one thing for sure is that I would get comprehensive cover.
