So what have you lot got against golfs?!

Presumably you think a Golf GTI on the optional 18's is not well built? The road noise in it is quite intrusive. The road noise in an Audi TT is even more intrusive, are you now going to argue that isnt well built either?

You seem to be failing to understand the difference between low road noise being the solitary factor in build quality, as opposed to low road noise being one possible factor in defining build quality.

It appears to be you that is struggling to understand.

So on the one hand you think that the level of road noise in a car is an indication of build quality, yet on the other you accept that road noise in a car is affected by many different factors?

There are so many things which can affect road noise in a car even between two seemingly similar models in the same range that to use road noise as a judge of quality is completely and utterly silly.

Otherwise you end up with conclusions like those I've pointed out - a Peugeot 407 Coupe is better built than an Audi TT-S.

No, the extra £2k got me a DSG gearbox, better residuals, and the engine of the year, as well as a much nicer interior.

All opinnions really, i think the golf interior is pretty bland, and the seats are rank, unless you get the leather ones. The checkered/burberry is actually just wrong!!

whaha.. i see now :)

Robbie G - golf fan - hates everything else

Rossk26 - Focus fan - everything else is bland/boring/squeaky etc.. :D

way to go lol

As interesting as it is to watch the two rabid fanboys beat each other sticks whilst insisting each has the best car in the universe, I think the truth is probably half way between. The Focus is better to drive, the Golf is better built, on average, they are about the same really.

Sorry which models are you comparing here? The GT Golf I drove was a much better drive than the equivalent Zetec-S Focus I drove. If you're talking about GTi vs. ST, I can't comment.

All of them, model for model the Focus is a much better car to drive than the equivalent Golf, the Golf has sloppy steering with close to 0 feedback and an uninspiring chassi, the Focus on the otherhand is the total polar opposite.

So, from a Golf v Focus discussion you've deduced that

- I hate everything else
- I believe my car is the best in the universe

Got to love some of the conclusions by extension that go on in this place!

Incidentally, I can't agree in any way that the non-ST/RS Focus is better to drive than the non-GTi / R Mk VI Golf.

We have already helped Robbie out with a defintion of opinion. ;):D

Successfully reducing road noise, requires an improved level of actual build quality. If it was just perceived, then it wouldn't actually reduce road noise, would it.

LOL

But the fact that you THINK the road noise is reduced because of the materials used IMPLIES high quality (hence PERCEIVED) is an opinion and not a result of build quality, but of design.

That very statement I quoted falls apart when someone else would think that the road noise is horrendous and not improved at all. This is because it is PERCEIVED.

Focus RS owners might disagree.

Jesus what a thread.

of course they'd disagree, that's why they spent their hard earned on one

the focus RS is a good car and adds much needed flair to the range but it's a little ''in your face'' imo when compared to the more subtle R32
the golf is the complete package; performance, reliability, looks and image. image does count for a lot. i could never pull onto the car park in a lime green RS, not unless i was under 25. but maybe that's the point?
