Activision ditch Infinity Ward. Future COD games will suck!

I don't understand why the studio heads of game developers allow their company to be absorbed into their publisher. It always ends badly.

Compare that to Treyarch and World at War and we had loads of add on content and even a map or two for free.

Map packs which are ~£20 on PSN... the entire game can be had for well under that price. I'd rather they just didn't bother with extra content if they're going to charge ****-taking prices like that!

Chill dude, no need for the sarcasm. I had no idea that CoD 4 was still that price for that long after release. Regardless, I don't really understand the point of your post. If the same publisher is doing it over and over again, then surely it just enforces my point more?

It does, but it gets my goat a bit that people have only started to notice this trend now. Activision have been major buttholes for years yet people have consistently bought in to their profit above all methods of sale, effectivley funding their ideas.

Devs and Publishers have been selling brands for years now on the strength of one game and we as consumers have consistently bought in to them. The problem is that theres no real solution. Do we stop buying games? Of course not. Do we protest? Why bother, just look at the attempt against MW2 on the PC. Hypocracy rules.

At the end of the day its Infinity Wards own fault for getting involved with the wrong people. They didn't exactly need the money when they were absorbed so why did they? Greed? Possibly, of course it looks like Koticks having the last laugh there. He's taken everyones money!

AFAIK the developers aren't the ones in charge of the pricing though. I bought the expansions on the 360 so I couldn't comment on how much they are on the PSN, I'd take a look, but the PS3 is in use. My original point though was that while Activision are certainly a bunch of greedy ****s, Infinity Ward didn't support COD4 very well and they haven't done so with MW2 so far either.

Oh I'm fully aware that it is money-driven, but the past has been instrumental in demonstrating that the big publishers couldn't give a crap about the development studios. As an example, Westwood got absorbed by EA and they disappeared, and so did their fantastic games. Can you honestly tell me that they made more money from being bought out by EA than they would have if they'd have continued to develop under their own brand and then have EA distribute their games? There have been no good C&C games since Red Alert and Red Alert 2, and there's certainly a market for them. If Westwood were still around in their original form, I bet they'd still be taking a huge share of the market with their franchise.

I don't understand why the smaller studios can't realise that they're better off without deals like this in the long run. Gaming fans are also very loyal to developers when they like their games, and it takes a lot for them to turn away from buying a game in a franchise that they like. Developers need to put more faith in the public than in the publishers. The devs know what they want, and they know what the public want, and they can give it to them. The publishers just want to make money and they don't care who they screw to get it.

I'm pretty sure that's why Fifa turned into a completely different game on the next gen consoles with the '08 iteration. EA realised that virtualy the same game had been rehashed since 2001 with a different gimmick each year, knew they needed something drastic changing to keep them ahead of Konami, and then did it.

As soon as there's a hint of a loss of revenue it's the publishers then giving more of a free reign to the developers to allow them to produce something that the devs know the fans will like. Ultimately it's all about the dollah dollah but if for example the next Infinity Ward COD game was utter **** I'm sure the iteration after that would be very good, unless it was utter ****e and still sold by the millions. I don't think MW2 is utter crap, in fact, the only aspect it falls down on is the P2P mutliplayer, and even that is only a big deal for PC gamers.

"Jason West and Vince Zampella are no longer with Infinity Ward... Infinity Ward remains central to Call of Duty's future and we rely on the combined talent, expertise and leadership of the team there for its success."

So Activision isn't ditching anyone.

I would guess that the president of Activision had enough of everyone running and teleporting around in WoW:MW2...ops CoD:MW2 so got rid of those responsible, I can only thow my pad at the wall.

...damn you Lightfoot and Commando

:D

Map packs are still on the cards, they will not be dropped after this announcement.

Who knows what it means for future COD games, it could mean IW start-up again with a new company and create a new game similar to COD like MOH etc.

The CoD franchise is already sucking and will continue to suck as long as IW are the developers. MW2 is terrible and IW are evidently clueless about how to develop a decent game.

Lolwut?

In what way is MW2 terrible?

Just about every way to be honest.

Graphics are mediocre at best.

Single player is boring, repetitive and painfully linear. Nothing special about it at all.

And the multiplayer is the most laggy, broken and unbalanced atrocity I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing.

Intersting, what TV are you playing on? They look sharp on my KDL32D3000, I haven't managed to play much singleplayer, but from what I read you might be right about repetative, cannot comment on boring as i I say I haven't played SP much (I'm just defending Burger Town).

What connection are you playing on? I'm on a 10Mb Virgin connection and have only had a few games out of the many I have played where I have had really bad lag.

You say MP is broken, in what way do you think it's broken? Granted the care package glitch was unfortunate but that's gone now, I don't have much problem with it being unbalanced, I just play to my strengths, and when someone has a better set-up etc I work out ways to overcome that problem and kill them.

Are you sure it isn't just that you suck? :p

They are an improvement on COD4 while still using the same engine. Does Modern Warfare have **** graphics too?

Same style of missions as Modern Warfare, with a few new types thrown in for a bit of fun, IE the gulag missions, breaking through walls and breaching, driving vehicles.

They've worked a bit on balancing and in the process those dual wield shotguns are almost useless now unless used at close range which is how it should've been in the first place. The multiplayer is laggy at times but if that's a problem just leave and find a different game, it doesn't take long to be put into a lobby with the amount of people that are currently playing.
