I'm sure that I've read that the Aygo is made on the same production line as the C1. So how is it that the JD Power awards have the Aygo in 13th with 81% and the C1 down in 91st with 75%?

Are they really made at the same time with the only differences being the badges?
Is there a Toyota employee based in the plant who breaks a few things on the C1s as they leave?
Do the dealers actually do some pre-inspection work which is enough to make the difference?
Or is it simply down to perception of the customers?

All this and more will be answered on next week's "car's n questions with the the anally retentive".

Sorry, it just read like a cheesy TV show script. :(

Yes they are all built at the Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Plant, i'm not sure if they all run down the same production line however even if they did its irrelevent, the quality of the components fitted to the C1 / 107 and Aygo is selected by the individual manufacturer, quality of the final product will reflect the components which have gone into the build.

They do guided tours, must be a video on Youtube if someone wants to look it up.

Same with the Ford KA and the Fiat 500 too. I read an article about the two cars and how the KA performed better according to the review despite being made in the same place and having the same chassis, just some different suspension/drivetrain components.

The KA/500 is different from the Aygo/C1/107 situation. The only changes on the Aygo platform are cosmetic, badges, stereos and the like, although having said that I do believe that Citroen offer a diesel engine, whereas the others don't? All other mechanical components are interchangeable I believe.

The KA/500 has the same basic platform, which Fiat sold to Ford, who then set about changing all the bits they didn't like - suspension and styling mainly it seems - Ford have done a much more comprehensive job of hiding the cars Italian routes.

On the subject of the survey results, I think a lot comes down to the dealers and brand perception. Generally the Toyota dealers seem nicer places to be, more efficient and so on, its why Jaguar has done really well in these surveys in the past.

Similar but not the same :) The Toyota/PSA cars were all designed together in a platform sharing venture, the 500/KA was an inspired marketing move by the boss of Fiat, who's name I won't even try and spell :p

Fiat used the Panda platform as a basis for the 500, meaning it wasn't like developing a new car from scratch, then went and sold the 500 platform to Ford for the KA, offsetting most of the cost of designing the 500, thus meaning it will break even shortly, if it hasn't already, and will be pure profit for Fiat :) As I said, inspired

While I think they're broadly similar, could Toyota have uprated certain parts, ie on a simple level using thicker cables in wiring, higher grade electrical components etc?

i thought there was a difference between the Toyota versus the PSA ones? like they were made on a different line etc?

But as posted above, the Toyota after sales will be better than PSAs

What confused me more than the Aygo/C1/107 results, was the differences between the Volvo V50 and the Volvo S40. Same car, one has a big boot. Why the difference in reliability, cabin quality and dealer service? "You see sir your car has a smaller boot, no complimentary muffins for you!"
