PS3 stopped playing games but still plays dvds

hi,

my friends ps3 has stopped playing games this week but is still playing games.

is this fixable or will he have to send it away to be fixed or buy a new 1?

i had a looks on google and the forum but couldnt see anything.

There's been a problem with the PSN network that has led to not being able to play games online or offline. Not sure if Sony have issued a fix yet.

As to the OP, I'd get as much as possible backed up, then get it fixed if it was me.

It sounds to me like its an issue with the laser. Can it play Blu-Rays? If not then it will be the laser.

I think you can get repair kits for that.

cheers guys. i'll take a blu ray down to him in a few days. he doesnt have it connected to the net so hasnt had any update regarding the psn issue.

you think if he connects to the net and syncs it could all be fine?

Nope. It was a problem with the internal clock,

Try a blu-ray. Let it play if it crashes it is defo laser.

You can get replacement lasers

If he has any demo's etc downloaded try those also, They should play if it is laser problem.
