What are they doing? I can see it now, all of this 'green' nonsense affecting other supercar brands in the future. Not that this might apply to this particular car, but can anyone imagine driving a silent Ferrari, Porsche, Lambo, etc? :(

Apart from that though, it does look pretty damn nice.

I liked that article! Especially:
'linked to an electric motor that provides an additional 100hp. The hybrid system works similar to that of a Toyota Prius – whenever the car breaks, regenerative breaking sends energy to a prismatic-cell battery pack, and the engine turns off. This energy can then be'

Whenever the car breaks eh!

Why would it be silent and why is having extra power for free (provided by capturing otherwise wasted energy) a bad thing?

Not that this might apply to this particular car

;)

However, it's just a step in that direction. I mean, look at all of these crappy electric and hybrid cars. Completely silent. The roar of a big, beastly engine is one of the qualities of a car such as a Ferrari (in my opinion, and I'm guessing many other people).

My 3 cylinder can get a bit of a roar on the go.

Its interesting that CO2 might be the reason Ferrari have dropped the manual boxes, DSG offers benefits when you can program arbitury points to meet the silly NEDC.

Now battery technology is improving in terms of power capacity (not energy capacity) you dont need very big batteries for hybrids. There is no point having big batteries unless you charge of the grid but high power batteries mean you can store a lot of slowing for roundabout energy and reuse it the other side. Thats pretty much the crux of it.

They have to, in order to boost their average consumption and decrease their average emissions across the range, as not to be met with hefty penalties and fines - and meet all the new emissions regulations.

It's not a stupid hybrid stacked full of heavy batteries, it's a boost device like F1 KERS.

And I love the way it still gets classed as a hybrid, defying the objective rocks!

What!?

Thats exactly what hybrid is.

A hybrid of powertrains to move the car.

I like the KERS comment> check my sig. You do know the acronym of KERS?

Read my post again, I didn't say it's not a hybrid, I said it's not a "stupid hybrid". ;)

BigglesPiP, out pedanting the rest of you since 1987.

How would it be classed as anything but a hybrid then?

I guess an Astute Class submarine is a 'stupid hybrid' as it doesnt have a V12 or 'KERS'?

I dont do pedantics, just engineering.
