Are there any release dates for the new xbox or PS4 ??

No. They haven't even been hinted at really. Microsoft are pushing Natal as the next big thing and Sony are going to be supporting the PS3 for at least another 4 years, they still support and develop games for the Playstation 2.

I wonder if Microsoft will release a slimmer version of the 360 though I very much doubt it, they didn't with the original Xbox so I see no reason as to why they would now. Nintendo will probably be the first of the 3 big console makers to bring out a new machine, probably something along the lines of a Wii with current generation graphics, instead of games that look like they came from the 6th gen era.
 
Jack Tretton from SCEA recently said he has no idea about the PS4. He can't even imagine what the technology inside it might be. So they haven't even signed hardware contracts yet, although I'm sure I read they are ditching Cell and going for a Power7 CPU.

Lets pray that the power7 cpu is much better then IBM older PC cpu's

(I bought an IBM cpu for my first PC many years ago and it was crap compared to intel cpu's for gaming..)

lol im sure he could :) just have to look at whats being constantly released on the current market and what is to be released going forward.
 
They haven't even said anything about the next gen consoles. And I'm fairly sure the PS4 is sticking with Cell for its processing needs. Sony said years ago they would be sticking with it as its scalable (plonk more processing units on it, etc) and the massive R&D investment into Cell was precisely because they expect to use it for many iterations to come.
 
I love it when people ask this on forums, as if it could have been announced without being everywhere! And if it had been announced then a quick google would have told you.
 
It all comes down to sales and really nothing else.

PS3 is likely to overtake X360 console sales this year.
Microsoft are already going the value route and bringing games that appeal to younger ages now that the prices are very good for the console.

I cant see Microsoft going beyond 2012 without a new console and for them I would say they will appear with a new machine before Sony.
The machine is close to offering its maximium potential.

The only thing the 360 really has a problem with is its media. Even in its early days, some games came on 3 discs. It's starting to happen more and more. But what's really annoying is stuff being left out of games on all platforms because the 360 hasn't got the disc space. Lost Planet 2 was a casualty and maybe Rage from id (the game was originally supposed to have several areas but now it's only two - one for each DVD on the Xbox).
 
Microsoft said themselves the 360 has only just reached it's half-life.

They also said that for the Xbox and then completely ditched it a few months later to get the 360 out the door. Never say never in this industry.

Natal and Arc, if they're both successful enough, will give a few more years in this round, but if not then I would expect both Microsoft and Sony to speed up the next generation in any way they can. It's their shot at emulating Nintendo's success and if they can't do it with existing hardware they will want to move on as fast as possible. Conversely, if the new controller & game designs are popular, that is a significant reason to stick with the current systems instead of spending the time, money and resources on their successors.

I would like to think the outcome of the whole Arc/Natal affair will have a significant impact on when we'll see the next generation.
